Remote senior .NET engineer based in Poland for the SmartGrants platform: stabilising a legacy .NET application, driving a technical-debt roadmap through 2030, modernising dependencies, and improving testing, CI/CD, monitoring and Azure operations. Core stack: C#/.NET (ASP.NET Core), SQL/Entity Framework and Microsoft Azure.

We are looking for a senior .NET engineer based in Poland. Working closely with technical and business stakeholders, you will take an active role in stabilising the solution, reducing technical debt and improving the engineering practices needed for dependable long-term operation. The role offers significant ownership and the opportunity to influence architecture, quality standards and technical priorities.
Your key responsibilities include the following:
Build a strong understanding of the existing codebase, architecture, integrations and business-critical workflows
Create and drive a risk-based technical debt roadmap focused on stability, security, maintainability and supportability through 2030
Modernise the .NET application and key dependencies in pragmatic, incremental steps while protecting business continuity
Diagnose and resolve production issues, recurring defects, performance bottlenecks and integration failures
Improve automated testing, code quality, logging, monitoring and operational documentation
Strengthen CI/CD, deployment practices, environment consistency and safe rollback approaches
Document key design decisions, interfaces, runbooks and critical business logic, and share knowledge across the team
Work with business and technical stakeholders to prioritise improvements according to operational risk and business value
What we are looking for
We are seeking a candidate with an educational background in Computer Science, Software Development or Engineering, as well as substantial experience in several of the following areas:
Strong hands-on experience developing and maintaining backend applications using C# and .NET / ASP.NET Core
Experience modernising legacy or business-critical applications without disrupting ongoing operations
Solid knowledge of relational databases, SQL and Entity Framework
Experience designing, maintaining and troubleshooting enterprise integrations and APIs
Practical experience with Microsoft Azure, including application hosting, monitoring and cloud operations
Experience with unit, integration and regression testing and improving test coverage in existing systems
Good understanding of secure coding, dependency management and software lifecycle risks
Experience with CI/CD, source control and modern software quality practices
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn findings into pragmatic improvement plans
Ability to work independently with a high degree of ownership and accountability
Excellent communication skills and confidence working directly with technical and business stakeholders
Nice to have:
Vue.js or another modern JavaScript framework
Azure App Service, Azure SQL and Infrastructure as Code such as Bicep or ARM templates
Observability, structured logging, alerting and production support
Financial, invoicing or payment workflows
SAP or other ERP integrations
Experience from clinical development, life sciences or another regulated enterprise environment
