Senior Lecturer in Criminology/Criminal Justice

The role

Newcastle Law School seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Criminal Justice to support the design and delivery of our new Law with Criminology LLB.

We are looking for a passionate researcher and educator. You should have an established national/international research profile in the area of criminology/criminal justice broadly defined and a clear research trajectory that shows potential for engaging with the research funding landscape and/or delivering real world impact and benefit through your research. Sustained teaching experience in criminology and law adjacent criminal justice modules is essential. The successful candidate will be expected to lead on the development and delivery of an ‘Introduction to Criminal Justice’ module, deliver a capstone module titled ‘Criminology, Law and Policy’ and contribute to other areas of undergraduate/postgraduate teaching. Experience of working with external stakeholders to enhance the educational offer or a history of pro-bono or community engagement work is highly desirable.

Newcastle Law School is a globally connected, locally rooted and compassionate community. We embrace diversity and advance social justice by addressing contemporary and future challenges through our research, our scholarship, our engagement with partners, and as a lasting impact of our legal education. We are based in Newcastle upon Tyne, a city with a wide variety of cultural, social and leisure offerings, with outstanding schools and close proximity to beautiful nature and heritage sites. We want to appoint someone who shares our values, and who will work with us to realise them across all our areas of activity. We are particularly interested in the strengths and lived experiences of researchers from different ethnic groups and cultures to broaden the diversity of Newcastle Law School, as we strive to avoid perpetuating biases and oversights on legal research and legal education.
