Infrastructure Engineer
Department: IT
Reports To: Director of Digital Transformation & Cyber Security
Overview
Moonshot is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, optimize, and support enterprise infrastructure as the organization scales. This role adds engineering capacity to the existing Systems Administrator and Network Administrator functions, providing broad coverage across systems and network infrastructure rather than specializing in a single technical vertical.
The role is primarily project- and engineering-focused: defining infrastructure requirements for new initiatives, leading infrastructure projects, and driving facility deployments from design through implementation and stabilization. The Infrastructure Engineer will also provide hands-on operational support when needed and help strengthen infrastructure reliability, security, documentation, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Architecture, Projects & Facility Deployment
- Define and design infrastructure requirements and technical approaches for new initiatives, facility rollouts, and infrastructure expansion projects.
- Lead network and IT infrastructure projects from planning and design through implementation, validation, and transition to ongoing support.
- Build and deploy infrastructure for new facilities, including the systems, network, connectivity, and core IT services required to support Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations.
- Provide post-implementation support, stabilization, documentation, and continuous improvement after new infrastructure is placed into service.
- Take initiative and lead project work across the department, coordinating technical execution with team members and stakeholders without direct-report authority.
Systems & Infrastructure Engineering
- Design, implement, and maintain Windows Server, Microsoft 365, and virtualization (Hyper-V) environments to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Manage enterprise backup systems, disaster recovery validation, patching, and system hardening initiatives.
- Monitor infrastructure health, troubleshoot performance issues, and execute lifecycle planning for servers and core platforms.
- Support SQL environments and develop automation/scripts (PowerShell preferred) to improve operational efficiency.
Network Engineering & Connectivity
- Maintain and optimize firewalls, VPNs, switching, segmentation, and secure remote access infrastructure.
- Lead network expansions, facility buildouts, and production floor connectivity improvements.
- Perform advanced network troubleshooting and root cause analysis to prevent recurring outages.
- Ensure secure and resilient connectivity across corporate, engineering, and manufacturing environments.
Operational Support & Team Coverage
- Serve as a flexible technical resource and backup across both systems and network administration functions to help address workload constraints and maintain team coverage.
- Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support and hands-on day-to-day infrastructure support when needed, while keeping project delivery and engineering work as the primary focus.
- Support hardware deployment, lifecycle activities, documentation, standards, and repeatable operational procedures as team needs require.
Security & Operational Resilience
- Implement and enforce access controls, endpoint protections, and network security standards.
- Support vulnerability management, incident response, and remediation efforts.
- Execute identity and access management practices aligned with least privilege principles.
- Assist in disaster recovery testing and continuous security posture improvement.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on infrastructure engineering, systems administration, network administration, or related experience, preferably in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, expanding, and supporting systems and network infrastructure for new facilities, initiatives, or major infrastructure projects.
- Strong cross-functional knowledge of systems and networking, with hands-on experience in Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Hyper-V, VPNs, firewalls, switching, backup, and disaster recovery.
- Ability to remain hands-on with implementation, configuration, troubleshooting, and operational support, while also leading projects and influencing technical execution without direct management responsibility.
- Working knowledge of SQL and scripting, with PowerShell strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals, access controls, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
- Experience supporting CAD environments, including SolidWorks 3D, SolidWorks Electrical, and PDM, strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience preferred.
- CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Microsoft certifications are a plus.
- Firewall or network vendor certifications are a plus.
What Success Looks Like
- Infrastructure projects and facility deployments are delivered with clear technical ownership, strong execution, and effective transition into ongoing operations.
- The Systems Administrator and Network Administrator have reliable engineering backup and improved capacity for high-priority work.
- Stable, secure, scalable, and well-documented infrastructure across corporate, engineering, and manufacturing environments.
- Proactive identification of infrastructure risks and continuous improvement after implementation.
