Senior Golang Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Senior Golang Engineer to join our partner's team, working with a European insurtech company that provides digital insurance solutions and embedded protection products across multiple markets.

Contract type: B2B

Work model: Fully Remote

Responsibilities

Design and build high-performance services: Design, develop, and maintain scalable APIs (gRPC and REST) powering core insurance services, taking ownership of complex services and their evolution.

Own delivery at system level: Lead microservices and larger system components end-to-end — from requirements and architecture through implementation, deployment, and operational ownership in production.

Contribute to technical direction: Provide input on technology choices, design patterns, and service boundaries; participate in architecture discussions led by Tech Leads and Architects.

Mentor and elevate the team: Coach mid-level and junior engineers through design reviews, pairing, and constructive code reviews; raise the engineering bar across the team.

Champion engineering excellence: Establish and enforce best practices in automated testing, observability (tracing, logging, metrics), CI/CD, and operational readiness.

Lead in production: Act as a senior escalation point for complex incidents; drive root-cause analysis, reliability improvements, and cost/performance optimization.

Ensure compliance and security: Embed security policies, coding standards, and regulatory requirements of the financial and insurance sector into design decisions from the start.

Qualifications

Must Have

8+ years of backend development experience, with 5+ years working with Golang in production

Proven track record designing and evolving gRPC and REST-based APIs at scale, including ownership of complex service-level design decisions

Expert-level understanding of distributed systems, microservices architectures, event-driven design, and cloud-native patterns

Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and modern DevOps workflows, including production troubleshooting at scale

Strong experience with PostgreSQL (data modeling, performance tuning) and message queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)

Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and driving adoption of engineering best practices across a team

Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for building clean, efficient, and maintainable systems

Regular use of AI tools to improve productivity, automate or reduce repetitive work, support decision-making, and deliver higher-quality outcomes

Ability to use AI tools responsibly by structuring effective prompts, critically validating outputs, understanding limitations, and taking ownership of the final result — and to guide others in doing the same

Excellent English communication skills, including the ability to communicate design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders, and to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment

Nice to Have

Experience in the insurance, fintech, or broader financial services domain

Deep familiarity with observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger)

Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), ideally including cost optimization

Knowledge of infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Helm)

Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams or contributing to platform-level decisions

German language skills are a plus
