Senior Full Stack Java Engineer (Java / Node.js / React)

Join a high-performing engineering team building the next generation of workflow automation platforms within a global investment banking environment.

This team is focused on transforming complex, manual post-trade processes into intelligent, automated workflows. By combining modern software engineering, workflow orchestration and AI-powered document matching, they're delivering solutions that reduce operational risk, improve efficiency and have a direct impact on the business.

You’ll become part of a collaborative team of experienced engineers working closely with business stakeholders to solve real-world problems. This is an opportunity to build software that matters, influence technical direction and work with modern technologies in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Responsibilities

This isn’t a traditional development role where requirements arrive fully documented.

Instead, you’ll work directly with traders, operations teams and subject matter experts to understand business processes, investigate existing systems and design practical technical solutions. Success comes from curiosity, communication and engineering judgement just as much as coding ability.

Java is the primary development language, but this is a genuinely full-stack opportunity. You’ll also contribute to Node.js services, React applications and workflow automation as the platform evolves.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Design, develop and maintain enterprise Java applications using Spring.
• Build scalable REST APIs and distributed microservices.
• Develop internal web applications using React and TypeScript.
• Contribute to Node.js services responsible for asynchronous processing and business logic.
• Build workflow-driven applications using Camunda (experience not required).
• Integrate multiple internal platforms through REST and HTTP APIs.
• Deploy and support applications running on OpenShift and Kubernetes.
• Collaborate directly with business stakeholders to understand requirements and validate solutions.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews and technical design.
• Deliver clean, maintainable and well-tested software following modern engineering best practices.

Requirements

Essential

• Strong commercial Java development experience.
• Excellent knowledge of Spring Framework and the JVM ecosystem.
• Experience building REST APIs and microservices.
• Commercial React and TypeScript development experience.
• Experience with Node.js or willingness to work across both Java and Node.
• Experience working with Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and API integration.
• SQL database experience.
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage directly with business stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in Agile environments.

Technology Stack

• Java
• Spring
• Node.js
• TypeScript
• React
• Camunda

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for engineers who enjoy understanding problems before writing code.

You’ll Thrive If You

• Enjoy working without detailed specifications.
• Are naturally curious and ask questions.
• Like collaborating directly with business users.
• Take ownership and solve problems proactively.
• Enjoy working across multiple technologies.
• Can balance technical excellence with pragmatic delivery.
• Enjoy continuous learning and adapting to new challenges.

Why Join?

• Build software that removes significant manual effort from critical business processes.
• Work on AI-enabled workflow automation and intelligent document processing.
• Join a small, highly collaborative engineering team with genuine technical ownership.
• Gain experience across Java, Node.js, React, Camunda and OpenShift in a modern engineering environment.
• Work directly with end users and influence both product and technical direction.
• Hybrid working in Central London.
• Competitive salary, bonus and comprehensive benefits package.
• Excellent opportunities for technical growth and career progression.

What Makes This Role Different?

This is a discovery-led engineering role. There are no lengthy specifications or predefined solutions waiting to be implemented. You’ll investigate legacy systems, speak directly with business users, uncover requirements and iteratively build software that delivers measurable business value.

You’ll also be joining a team embracing modern engineering practices and AI-driven automation to solve complex operational challenges. The work is varied, technically interesting and offers exposure across backend, frontend, workflow orchestration and cloud-native technologies.

If you’re an engineer who enjoys ownership, collaboration and solving complex business problems with modern technology, we’d love to hear from you.

Nice to Have

• Camunda BPM or workflow orchestration platforms.
• Python.
• AI or machine learning integration.
• Investment banking or financial services.
• Event-driven architectures.
• Cloud-native application development.

We Offer

• Opportunity to work on bleeding-edge projects.
• Work with a highly motivated and dedicated team.
• Competitive salary.
• Flexible schedule.
• Benefits package - medical insurance, sports.
• Corporate social events.
• Professional development opportunities.
