ROLE SUMMARY:

FTSE Russell (LSEG) is building next-generation distribution capabilities that deliver index data to the global financial community — across APIs, cloud platforms, and modern data delivery channels.

We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Engineer to design and scale the systems that power this distribution — enabling reliable, secure, and high-performance data delivery to institutional clients worldwide.

This is an individual contributor role with strong technical leadership expectations, where you’ll own system design, data modelling, and engineering standards across a critical client-facing platform.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

• Design and build scalable data distribution systems, delivering data via APIs, cloud platforms, and client-facing services.

• Own system architecture and data modelling, ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability at scale.

• Develop secure, well-designed APIs and data services for external consumers.

• Drive engineering quality through testing, review, and standards, ensuring production-grade delivery.

• Partner closely with product and stakeholders to translate complex requirements into robust technical solutions.

Tech Stack

• Development: TypeScript, Angular/React, Python, SQL, OpenAPI.

• Cloud: AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS, SNS, Aurora, and others as required).

• Databases: PostgreSQL, Apache Iceberg, DynamoDB, VectorDB (e.g. ChromaDB).

• IaC and CI/CD: Terraform, AWS CLI, GitLab.

• AI Development: Agentic AI tooling (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code).

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

• Strong experience building distributed backend systems and APIs.

• Proven ability to own system design and data modelling

• Experience working with cloud-native platforms (AWS or similar).

• Strong understanding of relational databases and data-intensive systems.

• Ability to lead through code quality, testing, and technical standards.

Nice to Have

• Experience with data distribution, APIs, or client-facing platforms.

• Exposure to financial data or market data systems.

• Experience with AI-assisted engineering tooling.

How We Work

The Distribution team drives the development of innovative and secure products that power our services and meet the evolving needs of our clients. We foster a culture of engineering excellence, solving real-world problems with purpose and ambition. We're looking for skilled and passionate engineers to drive the future of modern solutions working with leading AI development tools.

• Build with purpose. Start with why. Define the problem before reaching for a solution.

• Customer driven. Work backwards from client needs and build products to address real-world problems.

• Technically courageous. Go beyond your comfort zone and push boundaries to deliver excellence.

• Learn and be curious. Continuously seek feedback, learn in formal and informal settings, actively share knowledge.

• Act as owners. Operate as though it is your business. Make thoughtful trade-offs and deliver long-term value.

• Lead with data. Validate assumptions, stay close to the details, act decisively.

• Build responsibly, deliver incrementally. Look for the small opportunities and milestones to build ambitious solutions.

• AI-native by default. Use AI tooling as a force multiplier, frame problems clearly, validate continually, and own the output.
