Senior Firmware Engineer

Your Role

We’re looking for a Senior Firmware Engineer to work on one of Hudl’s most innovative new products: next generation, fully-automated sports cameras. These autonomous cameras use edge AI to automatically track the action and upload to the cloud, giving our customers seamless access to vital, real-time video and insights.

As a Senior Firmware Engineer, you’ll:

• Collaborate. You’ll work closely with Hardware, Firmware and Application Software Engineers, as well as our System Architect, to build a reliable, scalable and easily updateable firmware system.
• Lead technically. You’ll set an example for others in planning, designing and delivering complex projects.
• Own the problem. You’ll work in an autonomous squad that has the freedom and expertise to deliver the best solution.
• Power our next generation of devices. Your team is responsible for turning early prototypes into fully functioning devices, working on the low-level components powering the full stack of the device.

Time spent collaborating with your teammates in-office will be a regular part of how you work. We’re currently considering applicants within commuting distance of Den Bosch. You’ll be expected to work more days in-office than remote, but will have the freedom to coordinate your specific in-office schedule with your team.

Must-Haves

• Deep embedded Linux experience. You have extensive experience in, supporting and extending board support packages for hardware powered by embedded Linux, including hands-on experience with Yocto, and you’re comfortable working across the full stack from kernel to user space.
• Development expertise. You have a strong background in user-space and BSP-level development, integration and debugging using C/C++.
• Linux Kernel knowledge. You understand device-tree configuration and kernel driver development, and can patch and debug drivers in vendor-supplied kernel trees.
• Hardware interface knowledge. You’re familiar with serial communication protocols such as UART, I2C and SPI.

Nice-to-Haves

• Microcontroller programming. You have a background in programming microcontrollers, preferably with FreeRTOS or similar RTOS environments.
• AI-assisted development. You work fluently with AI coding tools and can evaluate their output critically
• Rust experience. Exposure to Rust is a plus since a large portion of our codebase is written in Rust and we plan to extend it.
• Wired and wireless communication protocol knowledge. You’re familiar with areas such as PCIe, I2C, UART, MIPI, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 4G/5G.
• Camera experience. Experience with cameras gives you a head start in this role.

Our Role

• Champion work-life harmony. We’ll give you the flexibility you need in your work life (e.g., flexible vacation time, company-wide holidays and timeout (meeting-free) days, remote work options and more) so you can enjoy your personal life too.
• Guarantee autonomy. We have an open, honest culture and we trust our people from day one. Your team will support you, but you’ll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
• Encourage career growth. We’re lifelong learners who encourage professional development. We’ll give you tons of resources and opportunities to keep growing.
• Provide an environment to help you succeed. We've invested in our offices, designing incredible spaces with our employees in mind. But whether you’re at the office or working remotely, we’ll provide you the tech stack and hardware to do your best work.
• Support your wellbeing. Depending on location, we offer medical and retirement benefits for employees—but no matter where you’re located, we have resources like our Employee Assistance Program and employee resource groups to support your mental health.
