Senior Data Platform Engineer

About Us

In 2018, Bitvavo launched the first version of its digital assets trading platform, to bridge the gap between traditional currencies and digital assets. By offering transparent fees, a wide range of assets and an easy to use platform, Bitvavo is making the currency of the future accessible for everyone.

In two years' time, Bitvavo has established itself as the market leader in the Netherlands and one of the largest in Europe, with over one million users exchanging tens of billions of digital assets a year. Our team, located in Amsterdam, is looking for self-driven, talented people who can help make digital assets available for everyone.

The Role

We are looking for a talented Senior Data Platform Engineer to join the Data Platform team in our established Platform Engineering team. We are an exchange where system scalability, performance and engineering productivity matter in everything that we do. Our platform domain is committed to fostering autonomy by providing engineering teams with paved paths to develop robust, secure, compliant, and scalable systems. We're seeking exceptional talent to join us in making this a reality.

Responsibilities

• Build a self-service Data Platform that enables teams to build data products as easily and reliably as possible.
• Continuously evolve our platform to support new data use cases, including real-time analytics, batch processing, and machine learning.
• Build and maintain a secure, scalable, and compliant data infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code and automation.
• Enable data ingestion, processing, and consumption at scale, all offered entirely as self-service.
• Mentor teammates by sharing technical knowledge, providing constructive feedback, and driving engineering excellence.

Requirements

• Experience with one or more programming languages. We primarily use Python (Java is a plus), but we value problem-solving ability over syntax familiarity.
• Strong understanding of data engineering principles, including distributed data processing, stream processing, and data storage systems.
• Fluency in using infrastructure as code tools (like Terraform) and container orchestration platforms (like Kubernetes) in a cloud-first environment.
• Exceptional communication skills. We expect engineers to take ownership of their work end-to-end and communicate directly with stakeholders.
• High sense of ownership and accountability. We value engineers who take initiative and advocate for the long-term health of our data ecosystem.

We care more about your engineering mindset than your knowledge of any specific tool or technology. If this sounds exciting, even if you do not check every box, let's talk!
