Senior Data Engineer

ABOUT YOU

Are you a Senior Data Engineer with 5+ years of experience and strong hands-on expertise in Azure Synapse, Databricks, Python, SQL and PySpark? You enjoy taking ownership of data products, improving existing implementations and helping organisations evolve towards modern, scalable data platforms. You are comfortable working across data engineering, architecture and business requirements, and can independently drive technical improvements while collaborating with multiple stakeholders.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO

• Design, build, maintain and optimise data pipelines and data products using Azure Synapse and Databricks, including scalable ELT/ETL frameworks and reusable components.
• Analyse existing data products and identify opportunities to improve reliability, scalability, data quality, maintainability and operational performance.
• Contribute to the evolution of data platforms from Azure Synapse towards Databricks and support the implementation of Lakehouse and Medallion Architecture principles.
• Develop and maintain APIs and reusable data components, while contributing to technical design decisions, data modelling and target-state architecture.
• Improve CI/CD, testing, monitoring, data quality controls and operational processes while working closely with Business Analysts, Architects, Product Owners and engineering teams.

AN IDEAL PROFILE WOULD BE

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, Python, SQL and PySpark.
• Strong experience designing and implementing ELT/ETL pipelines, data models and data warehousing solutions within Azure cloud environments.
• Experience with Lakehouse architectures, Medallion Architecture, Delta Lake and/or Unity Catalog, with an understanding of scalable data engineering patterns.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, Azure Data Factory, Git and API-based integrations, ideally within a large enterprise environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently, take ownership and drive technical initiatives forward; banking or financial services experience is advantageous.
