Senior Cloud Software Engineer at Augmedit – Amersfoort | Jobyssey

Your software supports surgeons in the operating room

At Augmedit, we develop cloud technology and augmented reality software that helps surgeons plan and perform procedures. Our platform transforms medical imaging (DICOM/NIfTI) into interactive 3D anatomical models that are visualized before and during surgery using augmented reality.

Our software is CE-marked and FDA-cleared and is used on real patients, in real procedures, where quality, reliability, and usability truly matter.

For an engineer, the interesting part lies behind every 3D visualization: a secure Azure cloud platform that processes medical imaging, integrates AI capabilities, generates patient-specific anatomical models, and delivers them to web applications and augmented reality devices used in the operating room.

We're a small team, around 15–20 people, of whom about 5 are software engineers. You'll inherit a solid, proven architecture. The interesting problem is what comes next: extending it for new AI capabilities, imaging workflows, and scale, without breaking a platform that surgeons rely on. In a regulated environment, deliberate evolution beats big rewrites. You'll work on challenging technical problems using modern cloud technologies while helping build software that makes a meaningful impact in healthcare.

The role

We're looking for an experienced Senior Cloud Software Engineer to help design, build, and evolve the cloud platform that powers all our products. Not one of several backend engineers: the backend engineer, with full backend ownership.

This is a role for someone who enjoys combining software engineering with full backend ownership. You'll help shape the technical direction of our platform while still writing code, solving difficult problems, and building software that matters.

You'll work closely with our CTO, Head of Product, fellow software engineers and clinical specialists to make decisions that keep our platform secure, scalable, and ready for what's next.

The breadth of this role is real, not a wishlist. One day you might be translating a new product feature into a scalable cloud system; the next, improving a CI/CD pipeline, optimizing a database query, designing the infrastructure behind an AI capability, or helping integrate a new imaging workflow. If you enjoy working across services, cloud infrastructure, deployment, security, and data rather than staying within a single specialty, you'll feel right at home.

Your responsibilities

Our C# services and functions, and how they talk to data and to the frontend.
Infrastructure-as-code and deployment — how the platform is provisioned, shipped, and kept secure and reliable.
The security posture of the platform, in a domain where that isn't optional.
Raising the engineering bar: testability, maintainability, and the kind of structure that lets a small team punch above its weight
The cloud platform - the decisions that make the difference between a codebase that scales cleanly and one that fights you in two years.
Compliance by design: ensuring the architecture and development practices meet our quality and regulatory requirements (IEC 62304 / ISO 13485), working closely with our RA/QA managers.
Technical guidance and mentorship promoting knowledge sharing across the team.

What we're looking for

Core — this is the job:

Strong, senior-level C# across services and functions.
Entity Framework and solid data / database design (SQL).
Hands-on Azure experience — you're comfortable owning cloud resources, not just consuming them.
The judgment that comes with seniority: you can own a backend system end-to-end and defend your decisions.
Experience with building software in a regulated or safety-critical environment. Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) (IEC 62304 / ISO13485) strongly preferred. You’ll own a system that has to satisfy design controls from day one.

Platform —this ground is yours:

Bicep or comparable infrastructure-as-code.
Azure DevOps pipelines / CI-CD.
Azure networking.
OWASP and a security-conscious mindset.
C4 or another disciplined approach to communicating architecture.
Azure DevOps administration — user access, permissions, and security controls for our DevOps organization.

Bonus — genuinely nice to have:

DICOM format / transport experience is a real head start, though learnable for a strong senior engineer.
Vue 3 and TypeScript (our frontend) — useful if you like reaching across the stack, but this is a backend-centered role.
Python (we use it for AI and release tooling).

Language: High proficiency in English is required. Dutch is a plus.

What we offer

Opportunities for professional growth, technical training, and Microsoft Azure certification.
A flexible working environment with a healthy balance between remote work, our Amsterdam office and one day a week in our engineering office in Amersfoort Netherlands, to collaborate, synchronize, and connect with colleagues.
Competitive employment conditions.

Even if you don't tick every box, we'd still love to hear from you. If this role excites you, please apply.
