Owns end-to-end clinical automation at Asterix: RPA bots that operate NHS GP systems (EMIS Web, SystmOne, Docman), the data pipelines that move records into the DoctorOS clinical AI platform, and backend services on AWS and Supabase (PostgreSQL), evolving from UiPath low-code RPA toward code-first automation (Python/TypeScript/Playwright) and FHIR integrations.

To fix the biggest problem in healthcare: there are not enough doctors, and the system can no longer keep up. Millions of patients wait weeks for appointments. Millions more are stuck on hospital waitlists. Health conditions that can be prevented are missed and go unnoticed and we at Asterix are building the only scalable solution.
A new model of care where highly-qualified doctors are augmented by AI: safely, consistently, and measurably. The DoctorOS, our emerging clinical platform, is becoming the backbone of modern healthcare delivery. We combine rigorous clinical leadership, technology adapted for real-world care, and AI tooling that makes doctors 10x more productive.
We are backed by Entrepreneur First, recently closed an oversubscribed funding round, and live with some of the largest healthcare providers in the UK, generating revenue and expanding fast.
AI is only useful to a doctor if it can see the patient's record and act inside the systems GP practices already run on. In UK primary care those systems are EMIS Web, SystmOne and Docman, and most of them have no modern API that does what we need.
Today we bridge that gap with a mix of RPA bots, workflow automation and FHIR integrations. Bots running inside the NHS network pull worklists, lab results and documents from GP systems and hand them to DoctorOS, which syncs the full clinical record and puts it in front of our doctors. It works, it is live across multiple practices, and it is the part of our stack with the most room to become excellent.
As our Senior Backend Engineer, Clinical Automation, you will own this whole path end to end: the bots that operate clinical systems, the pipelines that move data into our platform, and the backend services that make it reliable, auditable and safe. You will also help shape where it goes next, from low-code RPA towards code-first automation and, as they arrive, official integrations such as IM1.
This is a founding-level role. We have real RPA running in production but no dedicated owner for it. You will be that person.
Clinical System Automation (RPA)
Own and evolve our automation estate that operates EMIS Web, SystmOne and Docman: report extraction, worklist pulls, document handling and, over time, safe write-back.
Make bots robust: deterministic, idempotent, observable and easy to recover when a clinical system UI changes or a session drops.
Decide where low-code RPA (UiPath today) is the right tool and where code-first automation (Python, TypeScript, Playwright or desktop automation frameworks) serves us better, and lead that migration pragmatically.
Evaluate AI-assisted and computer-use automation with a clear eye: use it where it speeds up building, keep production paths deterministic and audited.
Backend and Data Pipelines
Build and maintain the services that bots hand work to: queues, webhooks, ingestion APIs and sync workers on AWS (Lambda, SQS, S3, EventBridge) and Supabase (PostgreSQL).
Design for the messy reality of automation: duplicate submissions, retries, partial failures, outages at a single practice, and backlogs that must drain safely.
Own workflow orchestration (n8n today) and the contract between automation and the platform, so neither side can break the other silently.
