Senior Backend Developer - Energy Management Systems

Do you want to write backend code that actually matters, powering energy efficiency for thousands of buildings across Europe? Are you an experienced Java developer who takes end-to-end ownership, makes deliberate architectural choices, and wants real influence over a platform built on Azure and Kubernetes?

Then you might be the Senior Backend Developer our Mestro team in Stockholm is looking for!

As Part of the Department

We craft the vertical software of tomorrow, bringing sustainable impact to customers and society. At Mestro, we combine data-driven innovation with a genuine passion for energy efficiency and sustainability. As part of EG Group, we are a dedicated team of innovators and problem solvers who take responsibility for our contribution to our customers, each other, and the society we live in.

We are now looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join Mestro on a permanent, full-time basis, contributing to the continued development of the platform. This is a hybrid role with our Stockholm office as your base. You will combine days on site with the team and days working remotely.

Your Tasks: Design, Build, and Own the Backend

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will be one of the people the team relies on for the backend systems powering the Mestro platform. You will design and build new functionality, improve what we already have, and work closely with product owners, architects, and frontend developers to turn business goals into technical solutions that hold up over time.

You will:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs for the Mestro platform.
• Drive architectural and technical decisions, and take responsibility for their consequences.
• Deploy, monitor, and operate applications in Azure and Kubernetes. You build it, you run it.
• Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability issues.
• Set the bar for code quality through well-tested code and constructive code reviews.
• Break down complex and unclear requirements together with product owners and turn them into solutions that can be delivered.
• Mentor colleagues and raise the level of the whole team, not just your own output.

Your Profile: An Experienced Developer Who Takes Ownership

You have enough experience to know that writing the code is rarely the hard part. You make pragmatic trade-offs, communicate clearly about risk and scope, and take ownership of your work all the way into production. You want to work in a small team where your opinion carries weight, and where you are expected to have one.

You Are the Ideal Candidate If You:

• Have 8-10 years of professional experience in backend development.
• Have deep knowledge of Java, and solid experience with MS SQL and Azure.
• Have hands-on experience building and running applications in Kubernetes.
• Have a strong grasp of software architecture and distributed systems, including the trade-offs they involve.
• Have experience mentoring developers and driving technical decisions in a team.
• Communicate confidently in English, both in writing and in technical discussion.

Nice to have:

• Experience designing and operating microservice architectures.
• Strong CI/CD and DevOps practices: pipelines, infrastructure as code, and observability.
• Experience with large data volumes, time series data, or integrations with external data sources.
• Background in the energy management, proptech, or data analytics domain.

What's in it for you?

• A product with real purpose. Mestro helps buildings across Europe cut energy waste, so your code has tangible impact.
• Real technical influence. You will shape architecture and priorities, not just close tickets.
• A modern tech stack: Java, Azure, Kubernetes, MS SQL.
• Autonomy with support. We trust you to own your work, and we back you when you need it.
• A hybrid setup with our Stockholm office as your base, and a collaborative, low-ego culture.
• The stability and resources of EG Group behind a product team that still moves fast.
• Room to grow, whether deeper into architecture, DevOps, or domain expertise in energy management.

Our Values:

• Lead the Industry — We bring deep industry expertise and help our customers lead their industry.
• Make it Happen — We take ownership, move fast and deliver real impact.
• Stronger Together — We collaborate across borders with high standards, trust, openness and no politics.
