A Day in the Life of a Scrum Master at Jumbo APS
My day usually starts with a quick review of my agenda, action items, and any operational topics that may require attention within the APS teams. Before the first meetings begin, I check for incidents, escalations, risks, or dependencies that could impact delivery.
At the start of the day, I facilitate the Daily Scrum sessions. These meetings help the teams stay focused on their sprint goals, make impediments visible, and identify dependencies early. My role is not to solve every problem for the team, but to facilitate the right conversations, enabling the team to take ownership and make informed decisions.
Throughout the day, I work closely with Product Owners, architects, engineers, business stakeholders, and management. I help prioritize work, manage delivery risks, and create transparency around progress, expectations, and outcomes. Because APS sits at the intersection of Supply Chain and IT, a significant part of my role involves aligning different perspectives and ensuring everyone is moving in the same direction. A key part of my work is continuously improving team effectiveness and agile maturity.
I facilitate retrospectives, coach teams on self-management, and encourage experimentation to improve quality, predictability, collaboration, and employee engagement. I also explore opportunities where new technologies, such as AI and automation, can help teams work more efficiently and deliver greater value. In addition to my Scrum Master responsibilities, I act as an Engagement Manager. This means I am involved in team staffing, knowledge retention, financial performance, contractual commitments, and the overall health of the engagement. I maintain relationships with both Jumbo and Capgemini stakeholders and ensure that risks are identified early and managed proactively.
Between meetings, I coach individual team members, support their professional development, and contribute to broader organizational initiatives. This includes facilitating Communities of Practice for Scrum Masters, sharing best practices, and helping strengthen agile craftsmanship across teams.
At the end of the day, I reflect on progress, prepare upcoming events, and follow up on open actions. For me, a successful day is one where teams are empowered to make decisions, stakeholders have confidence in the delivery, and we have taken another step toward becoming a more effective and collaborative organization.
In short: my role is not about managing tasks. It is about creating the environment in which people, teams, and the organization can perform at their best and continuously improve while delivering value to Jumbo.
