Remote Mid-level Full Stack Shopify Developer

About Swanky

We’re Swanky, a fast-growing global ecommerce agency. We design, build, and grow Shopify Plus stores that convert. Our clients are ambitious brands, and we help them thrive with world-class Shopify solutions.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Full Stack Shopify Developer to lead on complex technical solutions, architecture, and client-facing discovery. You’ll be a trusted technical authority—guiding projects from scoping through delivery, ensuring technical governance, and mentoring developers within the team.

Your day-to-day could involve architecting custom Shopify apps and Checkout Extensions, designing scalable theme builds, integrating APIs, or advising on technical risk during discovery sessions. You’ll also help shape our development standards, conduct code reviews, and support the Director of Technology in defining our technical roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical discovery, solution design, and architecture for client projects.

• Build, test, deploy, and maintain robust Shopify apps, themes, and integrations.

• Define and uphold technical governance across multiple projects.

• Mentor and support developers, conducting reviews and fostering professional growth.

• Collaborate with project managers and client stakeholders to scope complex technical requirements.

• Contribute to product and process improvement across the agency.

About You

You thrive in a fast-paced, team-driven environment and are confident in both technical leadership and hands-on development. You’re as comfortable presenting technical solutions to clients as you are building them.

Required skills & experience:

• Extensive experience as a full stack developer (3+ years in commercial environments).

• Proven track record delivering responsive Shopify/Shopify Plus websites (2+ years minimum).

• Strong knowledge of Shopify Store 2.0, Liquid, and Shopify APIs.

• Skilled in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+), and TypeScript.

• Experience with React (Remix / Next.js).

• Experience with backend languages/frameworks (preferably Node.js or Ruby).

• Strong understanding of RESTful/GraphQL APIs and cloud-based/serverless architectures.

• Proficient in Git and version control workflows within multi-developer teams.

• Solid experience with databases, migrations, and relational data structures.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with confidence in client-facing roles.

Nice to have:

• Experience with Supabase or Firebase.

• Experience with Flutter.

• Experience with Rust.

• Experience with headless ecommerce and composable architectures.

• Prior lead developer experience.

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

• Knowledge of DNS and deployment workflows.

• Specialism in areas such as performance, accessibility, or animation.

Benefits

• Competitive salary, based on experience.

• Pension scheme.

• 30 days holiday (including bank holidays), plus one extra day per year of service (up to 5).

• Flexible working hours.

• Hybrid, remote, and in-person working options.

• Beautiful Exeter-based office with free tea, coffee, and hot chocolate.

• Work with dynamic, creative clients on high-profile projects.

• Regular team meetups, socials, and events.

• Ongoing investment in your professional growth and development.

• Be part of a collaborative, ambitious, and supportive team.
