Responsibilities and Duties:
Leadership & Oversight
- Serve as the regional safety lead, supporting multiple concurrent projects.
- Supervise and mentor Project Safety Managers, Site Safety Coordinators, and subcontractor safety representatives.
- Partner with project management to integrate safety planning into schedules and daily operations.
- Represent the company in safety-related client meetings and regulatory inspections.
- Take a proactive approach to the needs of the assigned region.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Conduct regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and verify corrective actions.
- Ensure adherence to OSHA, client, corporate and state/local safety regulations.
- Oversee incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action plans.
- Maintain accurate records and provide reporting on safety performance.
- Identify leading indicators of injuries and develop mitigation strategies.
- Assist with response to property damage reports.
- Tracking of metrics to include: TRIR, near misses, first aids.
Program Development & Training
- Deliver employee orientations, assist in safety stand downs, and conduct or coordinate specialized safety training (e.g., fall protection, confined space, LOTO, hot work).
- Support the rollout and enforcement of corporate safety programs, policies, and SOPs across the region.
- Assist in developing and refining safety initiatives that drive continuous improvement.
- Oversees random drug testing program.
- Manages company comprehensive drug and alcohol program
Safety Supplies & Resource Management
- Coordinate ordering, inventory, and distribution of safety supplies, PPE, and equipment for regional support.
- Ensure equipment is inspected, calibrated, maintained, and replaced as needed.
- Work with project teams to forecast and meet supply needs in a timely, cost-effective manner.
Corporate Support
- Assist the Corporate Safety Director with company-wide safety initiatives, campaigns, and special projects.
- Provide data, reporting, and field feedback to support executive decision-making.
- Act as a liaison between regional field operations and corporate leadership to ensure alignment on safety goals.
- Make recommendations to management concerning disciplinary actions when safety violations occur.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
Experience/Qualifications Required:
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the construction industry or a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health.
Job Skills:
- Knowledge of Windows based software (Excel, Word) and any e-mail system.
- Detail oriented.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Capable of handling confidential information.
- Able to perform climbing (extreme heights), crawling, heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) and must not be claustrophobic.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Special Requirements:
- Valid Driver License
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry certification required.
- OSHA 510- Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry course completion required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional safety credentials or designations through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), including but not limited to:
- Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
- Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP)
Any one of the above credentials or a combination thereof is preferred; candidates are not required to hold all listed credentials.
