QC Inspector in Chattanooga

Job DescriptionJob Description

The Quality Control Inspector performs dimensional and visual inspections throughout the production cycle to ensure products meet customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. This role uses precision measuring equipment and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to verify conformance on Nuclear, DoE, DoD, and AS9100/ISO9001 projects.
This role is evaluated on two equally weighted dimensions: Competency (what you do) and Culture (how you do it).

1. Dimensional Inspection & Measurement
Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment and CMMs to verify product conformance.
2. Receiving & In-Process Verification
Perform receipt inspection of materials, parts, and consumables, and execute QC witness/hold points per work travelers.
3. Quality Compliance & Customer Interface
Ensure all inspection activities meet QA program and customer requirements, and interface with customers and production personnel.

The following three areas represent the most critical responsibilities for this role. Together, they define the scope of work that drives success for the Quality Control Inspector.

1. Dimensional Inspection & Measurement
Perform precise dimensional inspections at every stage of production to verify that Master Machine’s products meet drawing specifications, GD&T requirements, and customer quality standards.
First Article, In-Process & Final Inspection

• Perform dimensional inspections (first article, in-process, and final) using conventional precision measuring equipment including vernier style calipers, vernier style micrometers, and height gages
• Interpret engineering drawings and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to inspection activities
• Document all inspection results accurately and maintain traceability throughout the production cycle

CMM Programming & Operation

• Program and operate Zeiss CMM (Calypso software), Keyence Optical CMM, Keyence Wide Area CMM and/or Faro arm for complex dimensional verification
• Select appropriate measurement methods and equipment based on part geometry and tolerance requirements
• Maintain proficiency with evolving measurement technology and software updates

2. Receiving & In-Process Verification
Verify incoming materials and in-process work at defined control points to ensure all products and components meet quality requirements before advancing through production.
Receipt Inspection

• Perform receipt inspection of materials, parts, and consumables against purchase order specifications
• Maintain QA-controlled inventory and ensure incoming materials are properly identified and stored
• Verify material certifications and test reports accompany incoming shipments

Witness & Hold Point Execution

• Perform assigned QC witness and hold points as identified in work travelers
• Verify that all inspection activities are performed according to customer requirements, procedures, and contract agreements
• May require traveling to customer or supplier facilities for off-site inspection activities

3. Quality Compliance & Customer Interface
Ensure all inspection work supports QA program requirements and contribute to a professional quality interface with customers and production teams.
Quality Program Compliance

• Ensure quality requirements are maintained to meet the QA program and customer requirements
• Follow all applicable procedures, work instructions, and inspection plans during execution
• Support the quality team in maintaining controlled documents and current revisions

Customer & Production Interface

• Interface with customers and production personnel on inspection results and quality-related matters
• Communicate quality and technical requirements clearly and professionally
• Support temporary assignments and additional duties as needed to meet business requirements

Every measurement matters. The inspector understands that the parts they verify go into critical systems, and their work directly impacts whether customers receive products they can trust.
What this looks like in this role:

• Treat every inspection as if the customer is watching
• Catch dimensional issues before parts move to the next operation
• Take pride in delivering inspection results that are accurate and complete
• Understand that your work is the last line of defense before shipment

2. Do the Right Thing, Always
"Integrity in every decision."
In nuclear quality, precision and honesty are inseparable. The inspector records what they measure—not what they hope to see—and flags concerns without hesitation.
What this looks like in this role:

• Record measurements exactly as observed
• Never pass a part that does not meet specifications
• Speak up when something does not look right, even under schedule pressure
• Follow procedures consistently, every time

3. Our Team Makes the Difference
"Great outcomes start with great people."
Quality is built by the entire team. The inspector works hand-in-hand with machinists, fabricators, and production personnel to ensure the product is right.
What this looks like in this role:

• Communicate inspection results clearly to production so issues get fixed quickly
• Help colleagues understand drawing requirements and GD&T callouts
• Step in wherever the team needs support
• Build trust on the shop floor through reliability and respect

4. Relentless Pursuit of Excellence
"Better is the standard."
The inspector strives to be the best at their craft. They invest in mastering measurement technology, stay sharp on GD&T, and take pride in delivering flawless inspection results.
What this looks like in this role:

• Continuously develop CMM programming and measurement skills
• Look for ways to improve inspection efficiency without sacrificing accuracy
• Get it right the first time, every time
• Stay current on measurement technology and industry best practices

5. Practice Blameless Accountability
"Accountability that improves performance."
Accountability is strongest when shared and used to improve, not punish. The inspector owns their measurements and flags issues openly so the team can get better together.
What this looks like in this role:

• Own your inspection results—good or bad
• Report discrepancies immediately without fear of blame
• Focus on fixing the process, not assigning fault
• Accept feedback and use it to sharpen your skills

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in quality control inspection activities utilizing Faro Arm CMM and/or Keyence Optical CMM
• Knowledge and experience with NQA-1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, ANSI N45.2, and ASME BPVC Section III and VIII quality requirements

• Minimum 5 years of quality control inspection experience in a mechanical or electrical discipline
• Minimum 5 years of practical experience working with nuclear QA codes and standards
• Machinist or fabricator experience
