How you’ll make an impact (position summary)

Miaplaza is dedicated to making education engaging and accessible through innovative online learning platforms. We develop personalized learning experiences for students, helping them grow in a supportive and interactive environment. Our vision is to elevate online learning by applying the most successful approaches in virtual education to create an accessible and inclusive education curriculum platform where all students can be successful!

The Role

We're looking for a QA Engineer to join our current QA team. You'll take ownership of how we test, validate, and sign off on quality across our platform. We're actively investing in our QA practice: expanding automated test coverage, improving our release testing process, and moving toward a model where quality is embedded throughout the development lifecycle.

You'll report to a technical Engineering Manager and work alongside engineers who value clear test documentation, reliable automation, and confident code releases.

As a mature company, we have legacy systems and established manual testing workflows, but we are transitioning to modern automated testing practices using Playwright and TypeScript. The split between manual and automated work varies, but you should be comfortable working across both, bringing automation where it adds the most value while pragmatically maintaining manual coverage where it's still the right tool.

A core goal of our QA evolution is to make testing faster, more reliable, and less dependent on last-minute changes before each release: replacing fragile manual regression cycles with stable automated suites, reducing flakiness, and building coverage that the whole team can rely on. Every testing investment is measured by whether it improves quality and reduces the team's burden at release time.

What We're Looking For

What you'll do:
Write and maintain automated regression tests; review automation MRs from peers
Execute manual testing across web UIs (functional, regression, cross-platform, responsive layouts on mobile/tablet)
Create and maintain test cases, checklists, and test documentation in TestRail
File clear, actionable bug reports with reproduction steps; collaborate with developers to triage and resolve
Own the release testing process to ensure only high-quality changes ship
Partner with PMs and designers on requirements review, edge cases, and acceptance criteria
Contribute to QA process improvements as we scale (currently a 2-person team growing to 4)

Requirements (Requisite Skills):
2+ years of QA engineering experience, including web UI testing
2+ years of experience with Playwright or a similar test automation framework (e.g. Cypress, Selenium, Puppeteer)
2+ years of experience using TypeScript
Strong test design skills: comfortable writing and maintaining test cases, checklists, and test documentation
Familiarity with QA's role in the SDLC and how to collaborate with developers and PMs
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Strong experience in manual testing and writing manual test cases
Upper-intermediate English (B2+) for written and spoken communication
Nice to have: experience with accessibility or security testing

How you’ll work with other teams:

Stakeholders & How you’ll collaborate with them

Developers
Notify developers of issues found during the testing phase, providing clear reproduction steps and screenshots. Collaborate to determine whether each issue is a true bug, expected behavior, or an environmental problem. Developers support QA by providing hotfixes and a dedicated testing branch with a restored database.

Product Managers
Provide clear evidence and detailed descriptions of issues so the Product Manager can assess their severity and user impact to determine whether they are release blockers. Discuss edge cases and user flows not covered in the ticket description or acceptance criteria, and document the expected behavior. Highlight risks in delivery ( too many critical issues found during the testing phase, potential ticket revert).

Engineering Manager
Your direct manager. Conduct regular 1:1s with you, provide development and tooling support, collaborate on problem-solving, monitor QA team progress, and review your work output.

Career Growth

We have a defined career ladder. Whether your path leads toward Senior/Staff QA Engineer or Engineering Management, there's room to grow - and we'll work with you to get there.

Onboarding

Every team member gets full support throughout onboarding, and no one expects you to figure out the ins and outs on your own. We'll pair with you, answer every question, and make sure you have the context you need. New hires typically feel very supported at Miaplaza.

What success looks like here: In the first couple of months, you're asking a lot of clarifying questions, reading documentation, exploring the product independently, and writing and running tests with confidence. By months 3-4, you're taking ownership of a specific area, building out test coverage, identifying gaps, and driving quality improvements. By months 5-6, you're contributing meaningfully to the testing strategy for migration and modernization work and operating independently. The common thread: curiosity, initiative, and the habit of investigating before you ask, but always asking when you need to.

Interview Process

Our process is staged and designed to respect your time. Expect a mix of introductory conversation, technical discussion, and practical evaluation. We want to understand how you think about real problems and testing practices. As part of the process, we will ask for professional references and conduct a background check. If you need any accommodations during the interview process, let us know, we're happy to help.

Compensation

Miaplaza’s compensation philosophy ensures equity and competitiveness while considering regional differences in labor costs. Placement within a range is determined based on factors such as demonstrated skills, internal equity, and local labor market rates for the candidate’s geographic area.
