Company Introduction
Codebase builds exceptional software teams for clients across. We take on our clients' biggest engineering risks — speed, quality, and the cost of hiring the wrong people — and solve them with vetted engineering talent and a custom agile process. Codebase is a great place to work at. The culture is transparent and every employee, irrespective of their position, is given a chance to be heard.
We’re looking for a hands-on QA Engineer who writes code, thinks like a product owner, and uses AI tools as a normal part of the job. You’ll be the first dedicated quality engineer on a portfolio of products, including a payments and client management platform, an authentication service, a productivity platform, and legal and audit management services. The stack is TypeScript end to end: GraphQL APIs and AWS Lambda on the backend, Qwik and React on the web, and React Native and Flutter on mobile. You’ll spend most of your time writing integration and end-to-end tests and the tooling around them. The rest goes to exploratory and release testing, where a person catches what automation misses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, write, and maintain integration tests for GraphQL APIs, Lambda handlers, and DynamoDB-backed services, running dependencies in containers so suites run in CI without a cloud account
- Build and grow end-to-end browser suites in Playwright against dev, stage, and production environments
- Own mobile test automation and manual verification for React Native and Flutter apps on iOS and Android, including hardware flows such as in-person card readers
- Use AI assistants and agents to draft test cases, generate realistic and edge-case test data, explore unfamiliar code, and triage failures, and know where their output needs checking
- Automate bug reporting: turn failing tests and manual findings into tracker issues with logs, screenshots, traces, environment details, and a minimal reproduction
- Perform exploratory, regression, and release testing for new features across web and mobile
- Write acceptance criteria and test plans that make features testable before they are built
- Keep suites fast, deterministic, and trustworthy, and fix the root cause of flaky tests instead of retrying them
- Work directly with product engineers in pull requests and push for testability in API and UI design
- Help extend the automated PR review rule set to cover test quality
Requirements:
- 5+ years in quality engineering, test automation, or software engineering with a testing focus
- Strong TypeScript: comfortable reading application code and writing fixtures, helper libraries, or small CLIs on your own
- Hands-on experience with a modern end-to-end framework (Playwright preferred) and a unit or integration test runner such as Vitest or Jest
- Experience testing GraphQL or REST APIs, including authentication, pagination, and error handling
- Experience testing mobile apps on real devices and simulators across iOS and Android, with at least one mobile automation tool
- Daily use of AI coding assistants for writing tests and generating test data, with a clear view on when to trust them and when not to
- Experience wiring tests into CI (GitHub Actions or similar), reading failing pipelines, and reporting results to a tracker automatically
- Comfortable with Git and a pull request workflow
- Clear written communication: bug reports that are precise, reproducible, and actionable
Nice to have:
- AWS serverless experience (Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, CloudFront) or AWS CDK
- Testcontainers or similar ways of running dependencies locally
- Payments, card readers, or other regulated flows where sandbox environments matter
- Contract, visual regression, accessibility, or performance testing
- Building internal tools or agents on LLM APIs or the Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS products
- Familiarity with pnpm workspaces, Biome, valibot, Testing Library, Qwik, TanStack Router, or YouTrack
Soft Skills
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proactive and eager to learn new technologies.
