Project Manager / Estimator (Roofing)

Title: Project Manager / Estimator (Roofing)

Location: Ottawa, ON

Company: Triumph Group of Companies

Role Overview

The Project Manager / Estimator (Roofing) owns the full cycle of roofing work in the Ottawa market, from the first quote to final handoff. You'll prepare accurate, competitive estimates, track and submit tenders through Building Connected and similar bid platforms, and manage awarded projects from material procurement through completion. As the sole PM/estimator for the Ottawa branch, you work directly with clients, suppliers, and site crews, and you make the reasonable call in the moment instead of waiting to be told, since there's no one else in the seat to check with when a decision needs to happen right away. Good work in this role means bids that win without leaving money on the table, materials that show up when the job needs them instead of holding up a crew, and a client list that keeps calling Triumph back for the next project instead of shopping the work around. Because this is a standalone branch, the reputation Triumph builds in the Ottawa roofing market over the next few years is, in large part, whatever reputation you build for it. That's a significant amount of trust placed in one role, and it comes with a corresponding amount of latitude to run the branch the way you see fit, within Triumph's broader standards.

You're as comfortable on a roof as you are at a desk: job site visits, ladders, and roof hatches are part of the routine, not the exception, and you'll move between quoting at your desk in the morning and walking a roof with a client or a crew lead in the afternoon. The people who thrive here bring real Ottawa roofing market knowledge, quote with discipline rather than guessing at numbers, and own a miss on a bid or a schedule the moment they spot it instead of letting it slide and hoping it resolves itself. Because you're the only estimator and PM in the branch, the quality of the whole Ottawa book of business runs through the decisions you make day to day, from how you scope a job to how closely you track a schedule once the crew is on site. There's no layer of management standing between you and the outcome of a project, which means both the credit and the accountability land squarely with you. That's a trade a lot of people find appealing after working in larger organizations where a good decision and a bad one can get equally lost in the crowd.

What We Offer

• Salary: $60,000 to $90,000, commensurate with experience. Where you land in that range depends on how directly your prior estimating and project management experience maps onto roofing specifically, and on how quickly you can take over the Ottawa book of business with minimal ramp-up. Your compensation is reviewed as you build a track record in the market and take on more of the branch's pipeline.
• Standard group benefits, giving you and your family coverage without having to piece it together on your own once you're through the standard eligibility period. This is the same baseline coverage offered across Triumph's other branches and divisions.
• Full ownership of the Ottawa roofing book of business, from first bid to project close, meaning the wins, the misses, and everything in between are genuinely yours to manage rather than shared across a larger team. There's no ambiguity about whose call a decision was, and no committee to route a straightforward decision through before it can move.
• Direct line to branch leadership, with real input into how the Ottawa market is approached, including which clients and project types Triumph goes after and how aggressively bids are priced. Your read on the local market carries real weight in those conversations, since you're the one closest to it day to day.
• A stable, growing organization with projects across multiple construction and infrastructure sectors, so the Ottawa roofing branch you're building has the backing of a larger company behind it rather than standing entirely on its own. That means access to established systems, purchasing relationships, and support functions that a standalone startup branch wouldn't have on day one.
• Room to complete working at heights and other certifications on the job if you don't already have them, so a gap in your current certifications doesn't have to be a barrier to starting in this role. Triumph will support getting you properly certified rather than expecting you to arrive fully credentialed on day one.
• A culture focused on safety, accountability, and getting the work done right the first time, rather than one that rewards rushing a job through and dealing with the callback later. That standard applies just as much to the branch you're building as it does to any established Triumph division.

What You Bring to the Table

Technical Skills

• 5 or more years of estimating experience, ideally with a roofing contractor operating specifically in the Ottawa market, so you already understand local pricing, competition, and client expectations rather than having to learn the market from scratch. Knowing which local competitors typically bid a job, and roughly where they land, is a real advantage in this role.
• 3 or more years in a project management or supervisory capacity, with a track record of actually running a job through to completion rather than only preparing the estimate that won it. You understand what happens to a schedule once a crew is mobilized and know how to keep a project moving when something inevitably doesn't go to plan.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and bid management platforms such as BuildingConnected, comfortable tracking multiple live bids and their deadlines without anything slipping through the cracks. You're the one responsible for noticing an addendum or a deadline change, since nobody else is watching the platform for you.
• Skilled at quoting and managing tenders and projects from start to finish, including material procurement, so you can carry a job all the way from the first conversation with a client through to the final invoice, without handing pieces of it off to someone else along the way.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to run multiple bids and active projects at once, since this branch doesn't have a second estimator to absorb the overflow when things get busy. Dropping a deadline or a follow-up call isn't something a bigger team can quietly absorb here.

Attributes

• Clear, direct communicator in English, comfortable representing Triumph with clients and on site, whether that's walking a property manager through a quote or talking a crew lead through a schedule change. In a branch of one, you are effectively the face of Triumph in Ottawa for most of the people you deal with.
• Makes the reasonable call in the moment rather than waiting to be told, since this is a standalone role with no other estimator or PM in the branch to check with before a decision has to be made. Waiting for sign-off that isn't readily available would slow down decisions that need to happen the same day.
• Owns a miss on a bid or a schedule the moment it's spotted, and says plainly what will change next time, rather than downplaying the miss or hoping nobody notices it. Branch leadership would rather hear about a problem early from you than find out about it late from a client.
• Comfortable working at heights and on active job sites, including climbing ladders and accessing roof hatches, and treats site safety as a non-negotiable part of the job rather than an inconvenience. You set the example on site, since crews will often take their cue on safety from how the PM behaves.
• Self-directed and consistent, bringing the same standard to every quote and every site regardless of who's watching, because in a branch of one, there's no one else checking the work before it goes out. That consistency is what builds trust with clients over repeated projects, rather than a single strong showing followed by inconsistent follow-through.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for roofing projects, from initial quote through final tender submission, pricing the work tightly enough to win without giving away margin the branch needs to operate. That balance between competitiveness and margin is one you own personally, since there's no second set of eyes reviewing every quote before it goes out. Getting that balance consistently right, bid after bid, is one of the clearest measures of success in this role.
• Track and submit bids through BuildingConnected and other bid management platforms, keeping on top of deadlines and addenda so nothing is missed or submitted late. A single missed deadline or overlooked addendum can knock an otherwise strong bid out of contention entirely.
• Manage awarded projects from award through completion, including scheduling, procurement, and closeout, so the same person who won the job is accountable for how it actually gets delivered. That continuity means nothing about the original quote or client conversation gets lost in a handoff to someone else. Clients notice and appreciate dealing with the same person from the first walkthrough to the final invoice.
• Coordinate material procurement to keep projects supplied and on schedule, ordering with enough lead time that a material delay doesn't become a crew standing around with nothing to do. A crew waiting on materials is a direct cost, so this is one of the more time-sensitive parts of the role.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, property managers, and consultants across the Ottawa market, since repeat business and referrals depend on trust built over more than one project. A client who trusts you will call before putting the next job out to competitive bid at all.
• Visit job sites regularly to assess scope, monitor progress, and resolve issues in the field, rather than managing a project only from behind a desk and finding out about problems after they've already cost time. Being physically present is often the fastest way to catch a small issue before it becomes a schedule problem. It also gives clients confidence that someone from Triumph is actually watching the job, not just managing it from a spreadsheet.
• Review drawings, specifications, and site conditions to scope projects accurately before quoting, catching site-specific complications early so the estimate reflects the real job, not just the drawings. Site conditions in older Ottawa buildings in particular often don't match what's shown on paper.
• Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers and subcontractors, protecting margin on materials and specialty work without damaging relationships you'll need again on the next project. The way you negotiate today affects how responsive that same supplier is the next time you need a rush order. In a market this size, the same handful of suppliers and subcontractors come up again and again, so those relationships compound over time.
• Maintain organized records of estimates, bid results, and project documentation, so past pricing and outcomes are easy to reference when quoting similar work in the future. Good records also protect you if a dispute ever comes up on a completed project. They also make it much faster to put together a comparable quote the next time a similar job comes across your desk.
• Report on pipeline, bid outcomes, and project status to branch leadership, giving them a clear, honest picture of where the Ottawa book of business stands at any given time. That visibility is what lets leadership plan ahead rather than being surprised by how the branch is actually doing. Regular, honest reporting is also what builds the trust that comes with the added latitude this role carries.

Company Overview: Triumph Group of Companies

Triumph Group of Companies is a diversified construction and infrastructure services organization supporting projects across multiple sectors. We provide specialized services in roofing, waterproofing, cladding, energy, restoration, and glazing, ensuring comprehensive care of building envelopes and infrastructure for the clients and communities we serve. That range of services means the Ottawa roofing branch, while newer, has the resources and reputation of an established national organization standing behind it.

Our culture is built on safety, accountability, teamwork, and consistent standards across all divisions. We value people who take ownership, communicate directly, and help move work forward, especially in a standalone branch role where there's no one else to catch a problem before a client sees it. This role is part of Triumph's push to build out a direct roofing presence in the Ottawa market, and how well it's run in these early years will shape how far that presence grows. The systems, relationships, and reputation you build now become the foundation for whatever the Ottawa branch grows into over the years that follow.
