Product Owner - Software Delivery

Salary: Negotiable package offered to the right applicant.

At Best Practice Software, our vision is communities connected with care. We’re achieving this through our mission to build a culture people love, where:

• we value customers,
• we work together for success,
• we are accountable for our actions,
• we innovate for the future, and
• we celebrate diversity and inclusion.

If you share our vision and values, please consider this exciting career opportunity to join our growing team in Brisbane or Bundaberg, Queensland.

At Best Practice Software, we build the products that help Australasia's primary healthcare community deliver better care. Our software delivery squads are who turn that vision into shipped, working software - and we're looking for a Product Owner who thrives inside the sprint, not just around it.

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused Product Owner role. You'll be embedded in a software delivery squad, owning the backlog, driving sprint planning and estimation, and taking responsibility for the quality of what gets shipped - testing, QA and formal acceptance included. If you love the rhythm of Scrum and want real ownership over what a team builds sprint to sprint, this is your role.

You’re unique, and we value that.

As a Product Owner - Software Delivery, we’ll call on your unique talents, skills, expertise, and experience to:

• Own and continuously groom the product backlog, prioritising and refining stories ahead of each sprint
• Lead sprint planning and facilitate estimation with the development team, turning it into realistic, committed sprint plans.
• Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria the team can build against without back-and-forth.
• Accept or reject completed work against the team's Definition of Done, and own testing and QA through to release.
• Be embedded in daily stand-ups, sprint reviews and retrospectives as a genuine member of the squad.
• Work closely with the Product Delivery Leader and Principal Software Developer to sequence work and resolve delivery risks as they arise.
• Document business requirements, use cases and acceptance criteria, and identify issues and risks as they emerge.

We believe our ideal applicant will demonstrate the following attributes:

Essential

• Experience working as a Product Owner, or in a similar role, within an Agile/Scrum software delivery team.
• Practical experience with backlog management, sprint planning, and iteration ceremonies.
• Confidence estimating and sequencing work with a development team — story pointing, planning poker, or similar.
• A working understanding of software testing and QA practices, and how they fit within a Definition of Done.
• Experience writing and refining user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with a genuine track record of meeting deadlines.
• A post-secondary qualification (a tertiary qualification in a related discipline is highly regarded).

Nice to have

• Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent Agile/Scrum certification.
• Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps or similar delivery tooling.
• Experience in medical software or e-health technology.
• Knowledge of the Australasian healthcare community and its unique challenges.

What’s in it for you?

• Market-leading benefits that make us a proven local employer of choice.
• Flexible work arrangements that help you strike the right career balance.
• Exciting start to, or positive development of, your Health IT career, with brilliant internal growth opportunities.
• Belong as part of a dynamic and highly supportive team with a strong dedication to the mission.
• Enrich your experience by supporting our frontline healthcare heroes across Australasia.
