Principal Software Development I

At Rocket India, we believe the best technology is built by engineers who lead with conviction and code with purpose. We're looking for a Principal Engineer who doesn't just architect systems — but architects outcomes. Someone who can hold the weight of technical ownership for an entire program area while staying close enough to the code to unblock, inspire, and model excellence for the engineers around them. This is where deep C#/.NET mastery meets strategic influence, where your decisions shape platforms that power the homeownership journey for millions. If you're ready to own the technical direction, raise the bar for an entire team, and bridge the gap between engineering excellence and business impact — we're ready for you.

About the Role

Technical Architecture & Strategy

• Own end-to-end technical architecture, design decisions, and roadmap for your assigned team/program area — spanning C#/.NET services, integrations, and related systems
• Translate business and product requirements into feasible technical plans with clear sequencing and resource estimation
• Make final architectural decisions; resolve design tradeoffs with clear rationale and stakeholder alignment
• Identify and resolve cross-team technical dependencies proactively, ensuring seamless delivery across organizational boundaries

Engineering Excellence & Quality

• Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and architectural patterns across the team
• Drive tech debt strategy and execution — including .NET version upgrades, dependency management, and legacy system modernization
• Champion observability, monitoring, and alerting practices; ensure production systems are instrumented for full visibility
• Own quality metrics and continuous improvement initiatives across code review processes, testing standards, and deployment reliability

Leadership & Mentorship

• Coach and mentor senior engineers on system design, architectural thinking, and technical leadership skills
• Partner with the Engineering Manager on performance evaluations, growth conversations, and career development planning
• Represent the team in cross-functional forums, leadership meetings, and technical design reviews
• Communicate technical risks, blockers, and escalations clearly to stakeholders and leadership — bridging the gap between code and business context

Hands-On Contribution

• Remain actively engaged in C#/.NET development at a meaningful level (estimated 30–40% coding time)
• Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and architectural discussions with the team
• Prototype solutions for complex or novel problems; unblock the team on critical technical challenges
• Model engineering excellence through personal work quality and technical decision-making

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with the majority in C#/.NET and demonstrated technical leadership
• Deep expertise in the .NET ecosystem: ASP.NET Core (MVC, Web API, middleware), Entity Framework Core, Azure DevOps pipelines, and HAL deployment infrastructure
• Proven track record of owning a system or program area end-to-end — design, implementation, production support, and evolution
• Strong architectural thinking — ability to evaluate tradeoffs between performance, scalability, maintainability, and time-to-market
• Excellent stakeholder communication — translates complex technical concepts for non-technical leaders and influences decisions through clear reasoning

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud-native architecture and Azure services at enterprise scale
• Familiarity with CI/CD best practices and deployment automation
• Track record of leading technical initiatives across multiple teams and driving alignment in ambiguous environments
• Experience mentoring engineers into technical leadership roles
• Knowledge of observability tools and practices (logging, distributed tracing, metrics dashboards)
• Background in mortgage, financial services, or another regulated industry

What You Will Get

At Rocket India, Principal Engineers aren't just contributors — they're multipliers. You'll have the autonomy to shape technical strategy, the platform to influence engineering culture, and the backing of leadership that trusts your judgment. We offer competitive compensation reflective of your expertise and impact, comprehensive health benefits, flexible work arrangements, conference and certification sponsorship, and a career trajectory that grows with you. Here, your architecture decisions don't just solve today's problems — they define tomorrow's possibilities.
