Pre-Sales Senior CAD Engineer: Power
Who are we?:At Vertiv, we’re on a mission to empower the people that will power the future. From a simple swipe to life-changing medicines, from push notifications to generative AI. We design, manufacture, and service the products and solutions that keep the world connected. With $6.9 billion in sales, a strong customer base and global reach spanning nearly 70 countries, we are uniquely positioned to deliver greater value to our customers and create new opportunities for our people.
Role purpose: The Pre-Sales Senior CAD Engineer produces the drawings and layouts that carry an integrated power solution through the proposal phase, and sets the standard for how that documentation is produced across the team. Lead time and quality of client-ready submittal packages are a competitive differentiator, so the speed and clarity of the drawings directly shape how the customer judges the proposal.
Role scope: CAD and documentation capability within pre-sales engineering: layouts, general arrangements and drawing standards for integrated solutions. Works from the system design defined by the Pre-Sales Engineer.
Key accountabilities:
- Produce layouts, general arrangement drawings and equipment arrangements for proposals, including site-specific layouts within the customer's building footprint and 3D/BIM models where required.
- Maintain drawing standards, templates and block libraries (including title blocks, layering, naming conventions and revision control), and keep them consistent across the team.
- Work with electrical, mechanical and control colleagues to reflect the design accurately in the drawings.
- Check drawings for completeness, consistency and compliance with customer requirements, and keep layouts consistent with the SLD and bill of materials, flagging discrepancies to the Pre-Sales Engineer.
- Reflect manufacturability and site constraints in every layout (equipment dimensions, transport and installation limits, access and maintenance clearances), working with the SKID factory and suppliers.
- Assemble client-ready submittal drawing packages, with clear revision status and a record of assumptions and open items.
- Support the transition of proposal drawings into execution documentation at hand-over to Engineering-to-Order (ETO).
- Improve productivity drawing through reuse, parametric blocks and standardisation; contribute layout blocks for standard building blocks, including Power SKID sub-assemblies, to the engineering library.
- Coach less experienced CAD users on standards and methods across the pre-sales team, including engineers who produce their own drawings.
- Use drawing automation and AI-enabled tools to reduce drawing time.
Working model and level expectations:
- Customer engagement: Mainly internal; drawings support customer-facing proposals.
- Travel expectation: Low.
- Typical work: Layouts, general arrangements, drawing standards, documentation quality.
- Decision profile: Owns drawing standards; escalates design questions to engineering colleagues.
- Leadership expectation: Sets and maintains the CAD standard; coaches others.
Role differentiators:
- Senior CAD capability with ownership of standards, not only drawing production.
- Supports the whole pre-sales team rather than a single project.
- Turns the system design into the package the customer actually sees: layout quality is part of the proposal.
Qualifications and experience:
- Technical diploma or degree in engineering or drafting, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum 5 years of CAD experience in electrical or mechanical systems, preferably data centre or industrial.
- Advanced AutoCAD proficiency; working knowledge of BIM, Revit and 3D or digital-twin tooling is an advantage, increasingly required by data centre customers.
- Good understanding of electrical and mechanical equipment arrangements.
- Able to read single-line diagrams and apply electrical clearance and installation requirements (IEC/IEEE and local codes) in layouts.
- Preferred: layout experience for data centre electrical rooms, power skids or modular / prefabricated power solutions.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline.
- Good written English; local language as required by the hub.
Core competencies:
- CAD mastery
- Drawing standards and reuse
- Attention to detail
- Collaboration with engineering
- Coaching others
- Productivity improvement
- Documentation quality
- Reliability
Indicative success measures:
- On-time delivery of layouts and drawings against proposal due dates.
- Drawings released without rework after engineering review.
- Share of drawings produced from standard templates and parametric blocks.
- Reduction in average time to produce a standard layout.
- Layout-related engineering change orders (ECOs) after handover to ETO reducing year on year.
- Feedback from Pre-Sales Engineers on drawing quality and responsiveness.
TIME TRAVEL REQUIRED
- None
