Lead a team of engineers building and scaling the foundational infrastructure that connects fragmented healthcare systems, ensuring high quality, security, and rapid iteration for a modern health-tech platform.
About NexHealth
Our healthcare system remains frustratingly analog. When you live in a world of one-tap car rides, instant meal delivery, and unlimited streaming, why do you still have to call to schedule a doctor’s appointment and fill out a clipboard in the waiting room?
NexHealth’s mission is to accelerate innovation in healthcare by connecting patients, providers, and developers. We’re building the infrastructure layer for modern healthcare, connecting thousands of fragmented, on-premise, and closed EHR systems into a single, modern platform that powers software, APIs, payments, and patient experiences across the ecosystem.

- Trusted by tens of thousands of providers and hundreds of health-tech developers — forging the infrastructure layer that modern healthcare needs
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to help build and scale our foundational platforms. As NexHealth transforms how healthcare professionals deliver care and patients experience it, our internal systems must deliver top-tier quality and customer value at high velocity. As a leading health tech company, we need to ensure that our customers have only the highest levels of trust in us and our systems—which encompasses data infrastructure, engineering excellence, and product and data security.
True innovation can only be sustained when the supporting systems encourage high-caliber engineering output and enable rapid iteration without incurring massive technical debt. Your team will be responsible for building these systems from first principles—prototyping, productionizing solutions, and creating the rising tide that lifts all boats. Delivering high quality features earlier and with safety and security is what truly makes our customers believe that we are the platform to be on.
This role will be based out of Toronto or Vancouver and embraces a hybrid working model that balances remote and onsite work (the specifics of which are at the discretion of NexHealth management). It is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about engineering fundamentals and operational excellence in a complex problem space. No prior experience in health tech is required.
What You’ll Do
- You'll be NexHealth's first engineering manager based in Canada — setting the technical and cultural tone for what will become a larger team as we expand our footprint north of the border
- Hire and develop world-class engineers to build a high-performing team
- Support engineers in their career growth through mentorship, feedback, and leadership development
- Ensure high technical standards through sound processes (e.g., architecture reviews, testing) and a strong engineering culture
- Partner with engineering and product leadership to define and execute long-term platform roadmaps
- Coordinate execution and collaborate across teams to deliver cross-cutting, high-impact initiatives
What You’ll Bring
- Proven track record (6+ years) leading high-performing engineering teams that thrive on innovation
- 8+ years of total industry experience in software engineering
- Exceptional people leadership skills with experience coaching engineers
- Deep experience delivering large-scale foundational infrastructure
- Strong judgment balancing engineering velocity with long-term technical quality
- Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively across Product, Sales, and Customer Success
- Demonstrated ability to define and drive technical and organizational roadmaps
- A builder mindset with a history of scaling teams and systems in fast-paced environments
- Strong ownership and initiative in ambiguous, evolving contexts
- Bias for action and data-driven decision making
- First-principles thinking applied to both technical and organizational challenges
- Deep care for people development and team health
- Alignment with NexHealth’s core values and mission
- BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

- Solve the customer’s problems, not yours
When making decisions, think from the perspective of the customer. It’s easy to make decisions that make our lives simpler, but not the customers. - Do the things others are not willing to do

Be direct, proactive, transparent, and frequent in your communication. - Default trust
As a Nexer, you do not have to earn trust, trust is given to you by default. If we by default trust each other, our speed of communication, feedback, information sharing, and overall improvements will be a lot faster. - Think in first principles
We first identify the problem and then break it down to its fundamentals before diving into solutions. We constantly ask “why” to validate our assumptions.
