Job Purpose
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the fruit retail business, ensuring smooth store operations, product quality and freshness, inventory control, staff performance, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
Oversee daily operations of retail fruit outlets, including opening, closing, housekeeping, and operational procedures.
Ensure stores operate efficiently and according to company standards.
Monitor sales activities and resolve operational issues promptly.
Fresh Fruit & Product Management
Ensure fruits are fresh, properly handled, displayed, stored, and rotated.
Establish proper procedures for receiving, sorting, grading, cutting, packing, and displaying fruits.
Monitor product wastage, spoilage, shrinkage, and damaged goods.
Ensure proper FIFO (First In, First Out) stock rotation.
Inventory & Purchasing
Monitor daily inventory levels and coordinate replenishment.
Work closely with suppliers and purchasing teams to ensure sufficient stock.
Monitor purchasing costs, selling prices, margins, and product availability.
Reduce overstocking and minimize fruit wastage.
Staff Management
Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate store employees.
Prepare staff duty rosters and ensure adequate manpower coverage.
Set performance standards and conduct regular performance reviews.
Ensure employees follow company SOPs, hygiene standards, and customer service requirements.
Handle staff discipline, attendance, and operational issues.
Sales & Profitability
Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance.
Develop initiatives to increase sales and improve gross margins.
Monitor sales by product, outlet, and staff performance.
Introduce promotions, bundles, seasonal products, and upselling strategies where appropriate.
Control operating expenses and identify opportunities to improve profitability.
Food Safety & Hygiene
Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, storage, and handling requirements.
Maintain cleanliness of stores, equipment, refrigerators, preparation areas, and storage facilities.
Ensure proper temperature control and storage conditions for perishable products.
Conduct regular hygiene and safety checks.
Customer Service
Maintain high standards of customer service across all outlets.
Handle customer complaints and resolve service issues professionally.
Monitor customer feedback and identify areas for improvement.
Store & Equipment Management
Ensure proper maintenance of refrigeration units, weighing scales, cutting equipment, POS systems, and other store equipment.
Coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance.
Ensure proper store presentation, signage, product displays, and cleanliness.
Reporting & Administration
Prepare daily/weekly/monthly operational reports.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including sales, gross profit, wastage, inventory turnover, labour costs, and customer complaints.
Maintain accurate operational records and documentation.
Report operational issues and recommendations to management.
Business Improvement
Develop and implement SOPs to improve efficiency and consistency.
Identify operational problems and implement corrective actions.
Analyse wastage, labour costs, purchasing costs, and sales trends to improve profitability.
Support the opening of new outlets or expansion of the business when required.
