Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide professional and courteous front desk coverage within assigned Office of
Accessibility Services Assistant Technology Lab.
• Greet and assist students, families, visitors, and university personnel.
• Monitor and document the flow of traffic entering and exiting the Office of Accessibility
Services Assistant Technology Lab.
• Assist student with questions, concerns, and routine requests, referring matters to
register with the Services Assistant Technology Lab.
• Answer and appropriately direct telephone calls and provide accurate information
student and procedures.
• Assist with registering for accessibility service, including maintaining an orderly,
welcoming, and professional front desk environment.
• Support Office of Accessibility Services Assistant Technology Lab student success
meetings, activities, events, and initiatives.
• Protect the confidentiality and privacy of student’s information and adhere to all
university policies and procedures.
• Maintain a professional attitude and demonstrate excellent customer service when
interacting with families, guests and university personnel
• Perform other duties as assigned in support Accessibility Services and Assistant
Technology Lab.
Required Qualifications
• Must be currently enrolled as a student at Norfolk State University.
• Must be eligible for and participating in the Federal Work-Study Program.
• Ability to work assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, and/or special events as needed.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
• Dependable, punctual, professional, and committed to providing excellent service to residents and guests.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous customer service, residential life, office, or campus employment experience.
• Familiarity with Housing & Residence Life operations and/or residence hall environments.
• Experience working with students, families, or diverse populations.
• Ability to remain calm and professional when handling challenging situations.
Wage employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked and are limited to working 1500 hours per year and can only work a maximum of 29 hours a week. Work hours must be counted on the basis of the twelve-month period beginning May 1 of each year and April 30 of the following year. Wage employees in all agencies (all branches of government) are limited to working no more than 1500 hours during each twelve-month period of May 1-April 30. Should you work 1500 hours prior to April 30, your services will be terminated immediately. You will not be eligible for employment again until May 1. It is the responsibility of the employee and supervisor, as well as the Office of Human Resources, to monitor these hours to ensure compliance to policy. Wage employees may not earn leave nor do they have access to the Grievance Procedure process. They are not covered by the provision of the Virginia Personnel Act and are not entitled to the benefits afforded employees occupying classified positions.
