Position Overview
BLOC Resources is seeking a technically skilled Network Security Analyst 1 – Electronic Security to support Southern Company operations in Birmingham, Alabama.
This position is responsible for supporting the design, installation, programming, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and monitoring of electronic security systems protecting company facilities, assets, and critical infrastructure.
The successful candidate will work closely with electronic security personnel, project teams, contractors, technology professionals, and facility stakeholders throughout all phases of security-system projects—from initial analysis and design through construction, implementation, testing, commissioning, and ongoing system monitoring.
This position requires a combination of low-voltage electronic security experience, network knowledge, physical security system expertise, project coordination, and technical troubleshooting abilities.
Key Responsibilities
Electronic Security Systems
- Support the design, installation, configuration, maintenance, testing, and monitoring of electronic security systems.
- Assist with electronic security projects from initial analysis and design through installation, programming, testing, commissioning, and final implementation.
- Support security systems protecting company facilities, operational assets, and critical infrastructure.
- Evaluate system functionality and assist with identifying and resolving technical or operational issues.
- Coordinate electronic security activities with internal personnel, vendors, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Assist with system upgrades, modifications, expansions, and integrations.
Access Control, Video Surveillance & Intrusion Detection
- Support the installation, programming, configuration, and maintenance of access control systems.
- Configure and support Software House C•CURE access control technology.
- Support Avigilon Video Management System (VMS) video surveillance environments.
- Configure intrusion detection zones and associated monitoring requirements.
- Support system integrations between intrusion detection, access control, video surveillance, intercom, and monitoring technologies.
- Assist with Aiphone intercom systems and associated security applications.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, communications, and system-integration issues.
Network & Security Technology Support
- Apply knowledge of computer and data-network systems to electronic security environments.
- Support network-connected security devices and applications.
- Work with concepts including:
- IP addressing and naming
- TCP/IP-based security devices
- Web and proxy technologies
- Internet connectivity
- Firewalls
- Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
- Remote computing access
- Network-connected physical security systems
- Assist with troubleshooting connectivity issues affecting electronic security devices and applications.
- Coordinate with network and IT personnel when security-system issues involve network infrastructure.
Security System Programming
- Program and configure electronic security software and associated systems, including:
- Software House C•CURE
- Avigilon VMS
- SiteOwl
- Aiphone
- Power BI
- Program intrusion zones and system integrations supporting centralized security monitoring.
- Maintain accurate system configurations and documentation.
- Assist with testing programmed functionality before systems are placed into production.
Project Management & Commissioning
- Support electronic security projects throughout the complete project lifecycle.
- Participate in security-system design reviews and project planning.
- Coordinate installation activities with contractors, vendors, facilities personnel, and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor installation progress and help identify technical issues that could affect project completion.
- Participate in system testing and acceptance activities.
- Support commissioning of newly installed electronic security systems.
- Verify that security systems perform according to design requirements and established company standards.
Physical & Electronic Security Design
- Assist with the development of physical and electronic security plans for company facilities.
- Support security designs for facilities that may include critical infrastructure and operational assets.
- Review facility requirements to determine appropriate combinations of access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, intercom, and related technologies.
- Assist with maintaining security-system drawings, documentation, device information, and system records.
Safety, Codes & Compliance
- Perform work in accordance with applicable job safety requirements, building codes, security standards, and company policies.
- Support compliance requirements throughout security-system design, installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Identify potential security, safety, or installation concerns and escalate them appropriately.
- Maintain accurate documentation associated with security projects and system configurations.
Required Qualifications
- Three or more years of experience working with low-voltage electronics, computer systems, network systems, or electronic security systems.
- Demonstrated experience with the design, installation, maintenance, or service of electronic security technology.
- Knowledge of intrusion detection systems.
- Knowledge of electronic access control systems.
- Experience with video surveillance systems and video management platforms.
- Understanding of intercom and communication systems.
- Working knowledge of IP-based network environments.
- Experience troubleshooting electronic, security, computer, or network-connected systems.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow technical documentation, system requirements, and established procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate technical records.
