Build a rule-based cash-reconciliation layer on top of NetSuite using SuiteScript and SuiteTalk to auto-match 90–95% of bank receipts, leaving only exceptions for staff review.
Why This Role
The client's finance team currently reconciles bank receipts to open invoices largely by hand inside NetSuite's Automated Cash Application module: re-teaching customer mappings the system doesn't retain, manually resolving reference mismatches, and hand-splitting multi-account payments. The goal is to build a rule-based reconciliation and automation layer that sits on top of NetSuite — via its native APIs, not a parallel system — to lift automated cash-receipt matching toward 90–95%+, leaving staff to manage only genuine exceptions. This role is the hands-on NetSuite technical resource who will scope, build, and harden that layer.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform technical discovery against the client's live NetSuite instance (Automated Cash Application module, Saved Searches, customer/invoice data model) to document the current matching logic, data flows, and root causes of manual exceptions.
• Design and build a rule-based reconciliation engine that matches incoming bank transaction data to open invoices/customers, using SuiteScript (2.x) and NetSuite's SuiteTalk (REST/SOAP) or SuiteFlow capabilities, without duplicating NetSuite as a system of record.
• Implement handling for known edge cases: persistent customer-to-payer mapping rules, external remittance reference matching (in addition to NetSuite's internal reference), multi-account/split-payment allocation, and duplicate/conflicting invoice references.
• Build clear exception queues/flags for transactions that cannot be confidently auto-matched, preserving a human-in-the-loop review step by design.
• Integrate with upstream bank data feeds and, where relevant, remittance advice sources (e.g., email-based remittance detail) needed to correctly allocate split or partial payments.
• Support a phased, iterative delivery model (working in 1–2 week increments) so measurable progress and quick wins can be demonstrated early, ahead of a broader roll-out.
• Produce technical documentation and knowledge transfer suitable for extending the same approach to additional entities/platforms (e.g., Ireland, and eventually larger transactional platforms) once the initial proof of concept is validated.
• Work closely with the SSI Solutions Architect and the client's finance and engineering stakeholders throughout discovery, build, and rollout.
Required Skills & Experience
• 3+ years hands-on NetSuite development experience, including SuiteScript 2.x (Suitelets, User Events, Scheduled/Map-Reduce scripts, Client Scripts).
• Practical experience with NetSuite integration APIs: SuiteTalk (REST and/or SOAP web services) and/or RESTlets, including authentication (OAuth 2.0/Token-Based Authentication).
• Experience with NetSuite SuiteFlow (workflow automation) and Saved Searches / SuiteQL for data extraction and reporting.
• Solid working knowledge of NetSuite's financial data model, specifically Accounts Receivable: customers, invoices, customer payments, and the Automated Cash Application / bank reconciliation modules.
• Strong JavaScript fundamentals and comfort building rule-based matching/decisioning logic (deterministic matching, not just relying on generic AI matching).
• Experience integrating NetSuite with external data sources (bank feeds, spreadsheets, email-based remittance data, or third-party AR/cash-application tools).
• Ability to work within an existing ERP rather than building parallel/stand-alone systems — this project explicitly requires extending and complementing NetSuite, not replacing it.
• Clear written and verbal communication for discovery workshops, documentation, and stakeholder walkthroughs with non-technical finance staff.
Preferred / Nice to Have
• NetSuite SuiteCloud Developer or Administrator certification.
• Prior experience in professional/financial services, legal services, or another environment involving high-volume, multi-entity cash receipts.
• Experience with open banking APIs or bank statement/remittance data integrations.
• Familiarity with applying generative AI/LLM techniques for unstructured data extraction (e.g., parsing remittance emails) as a complement to deterministic rule-based reconciliation — understanding where each approach is and isn't appropriate in a finance/audit context.
• Experience supporting a multi-phase automation roadmap (pilot → iterate → scale across additional entities/regions).
