We are looking for a multimedia support specialist to be responsible for day-to-day administration, troubleshooting and training of hardware and software used for producing video and audio at the Guardian. The role ensures internal multimedia facilities are technically reliable, operationally efficient, and ready to support fast-paced editorial and creative teams working across digital platforms.
In this role you will…
Technical Support
- Be the subject matter expert for multimedia applications used at Guardian Australia, including Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g. Premiere Pro & After Effects), REAPER, Iconik and LucidLink
- Support a geographically distributed team through email, video/telephone calls, instant messaging, and screen sharing/remote control
- Use a ticketing system to ensure all incidents and service requests are logged and adequately documented, resolve where possible or escalate to system owners as appropriate
- Manage the equipment lifecycle for a sub-fleet of Apple Macs used by Multimedia staff
- Collaborate with IT teams in Sydney and London to maintain a standard macOS operating environment for multimedia assets in Australia, using tools such as Jamf Pro
- Develop and maintain an internal knowledgebase for multimedia systems and processes
- Support ad-hoc Facilities requirements, such as AV setup and support for internal events
- Resolve 1st line IT support tickets for the wider business when capacity permits
- Be the technical contact for matters relating to networked cameras, recording systems, and lighting rigs in three locations, ensuring the studios are fully functional, optimised and production ready at all times
- Provide hands-on assistance to diagnose and troubleshoot audio, video, or lighting issues in live or recorded sessions, resolving issues quickly and calmly
- Deliver tailored inductions to multimedia staff on the safe and correct usage of multimedia hardware and software, encouraging consistent, high-quality production standards
- Work with internal stakeholders and suppliers on repairs, upgrades, and system integrations
- Maintain an inventory of studio and field recording equipment in conjunction with the multimedia team
- Support planning and management of equipment lifecycle, including upgrades and preventative maintenance
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Work with the multimedia team to ensure studio usage is compliant with health and safety standards, including electrical safety, manual handling, and safe working practices
- Support risk assessments and safe working practices for studio environments
- Work closely with editorial and technical teams to understand evolving content needs
- Work with multimedia support & engineering colleagues globally, contributing to consistent operational excellence and technology standards across physical studio locations (UK, Australia, USA) where possible
- After-hours calls during UK working hours
- Occasional travel to Melbourne and Canberra offices when an on-site presence is required
You’ll bring….
Knowledge & experience
Essential
- Proven experience with professional audio and/or video studios in a broadcast, podcast, or digital media environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Audio recording and mixing
- Video production and camera systems
- Lighting for studio environments
- Excellent troubleshooting skills under time pressure.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Intermediate technical knowledge of macOS
Desirable
- Experience supporting multiple studios or high-volume production schedules.
- Experience working with Jamf Pro (or equivalent MDM product)
- Experience working in a newsroom or fast-paced editorial environment.
- Knowledge of live streaming or remote recording workflows.
- Familiarity with accessibility, captioning, or audio quality standards.
- Formal work, health & safety training or qualifications
