Primary Responsibilities
HDR is seeking a Mechanical CxA Manager to lead and oversee commissioning activities for mission critical and complex building projects, with a primary focus on Data Centers and other technically demanding facilities. This role is responsible for ensuring that mechanical systems are designed, installed, tested, operated, and maintained in accordance with project requirements, owner expectations, and industry best practices.
The Mechanical CxA Manager serves as the technical leader for mechanical commissioning efforts, providing expert guidance throughout the project lifecycle while coordinating with clients, contractors, vendors, design teams, and HDR project staff.
In the role, we'll count on you to\:
- Lead the commissioning of mechanical systems from design review through final handover and occupancy.
- Develop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, and testing strategies.
- Review design documents, specifications, shop drawings, and sequences of operation to ensure commissioning readiness.
- Validate the performance of HVAC, chilled water, condenser water, heating water, ventilation, plumbing, and other critical mechanical infrastructure systems.
- Lead and coordinate pre-functional, functional, integrated systems, and performance testing activities.
- Identify, manage, and resolve commissioning issues, deficiencies, and project risks.
- Ensure commissioning activities are integrated into the overall construction schedule and project milestones.
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, equipment vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Conduct site inspections, performance evaluations, technical assessments, and field verification activities.
- Review and validate testing results, commissioning documentation, O&M manuals, and turnover packages.
- Prepare technical reports, executive summaries, commissioning updates, and client deliverables.
- Serve as the primary mechanical commissioning point of contact for clients and project stakeholders.
- Support proposal development, business development initiatives, and client presentations.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to commissioning engineers and project teams.
- Promote continuous improvement of commissioning standards, procedures, and best practices across the organization.
- Maintain accurate project records, financial awareness, resource planning, and weekly timesheet reporting.
- Perform hands-on commissioning work as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in building systems commissioning, building services engineering, or mission critical facilities.
- Demonstrated experience leading commissioning teams and managing commissioning projects.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, cooling plants, chilled water systems, ventilation systems, and associated controls.
- Data Center commissioning experience strongly preferred.
- Experience commissioning projects within Data Centers, Mission Critical Facilities, Healthcare, Life Sciences, Commercial, Industrial, or Advanced Technology sectors.
- Knowledge of ASHRAE commissioning guidelines and industry commissioning best practices.
- Membership or active participation in professional organizations such as ASHRAE, BCxA, CIBSE, ACG, or equivalent is preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience developing commissioning specifications, testing procedures, and integrated systems testing programs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and commissioning management tools.
