Homestead Co-op is hiring a Part-Time Meat Clerk at our Carman Food Store location.
Description:
Responsible for providing an exceptional level of customer service and maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to all company policies, procedures, and standards, including meeting established productivity standards. Responsible for the general merchandising of the department and the care and safe use of any tools or equipment required. This includes completing general housekeeping duties, assisting team members when necessary, and any other duties as assigned.

What you’ll do:
Customer Service:
- Responsible for providing information, special order taking assistance, and exceptional customer service to all customers.
- This includes responding to general inquiries regarding store promotions, product details (information), bulletins and updates.
Butcher Operations:
- Inspect all received goods to ensure the quality and completeness of the order and when required order and receive products.
- Maintain shelf and display stock and organize all goods intended for sale to meet established standards.
- Update and maintain an accurate and proper markdown report.
- As per FIM production requirements prepare, package and merchandise production items.

General Cleaning and Other Duties:
- Performs general housekeeping duties (spills, display fixtures, etc.) to ensure all areas of responsibility are safe, organized, clean and tidy.
- Responsible for keeping the sales floor and back stock area clean of cardboard and debris, including the disposal of garbage.
- Assist with regular cleaning duties to ensure an efficient, safe and clean location is maintained.
- Ensure all tools and equipment required to complete assigned duties are well maintained and safe to use.
- Report any concerns to the team leader for review before use.
- Other duties as assigned.
Who you are:
Education:
- Grade 9 completion required.
- Completion of Journeyman Meat Cutter Certificate is considered an asset.
- Diploma in Culinary Arts is considered an asset.
- Food Handler Certification is considered an asset.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Other Qualifications:
- Retail and/or customer service experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a meat department, butcher shop, food production facility, or fresh food retail environment is an asset.
- Experience cutting, trimming, processing, or merchandising meat products is an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge of meat cuts, product preparation, food handling, and food safety practices is considered an asset.
- Experience using knives, grinders, slicers, saws, and other meat processing equipment safely and effectively is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in merchandising, inventory control, and food handling practices is an asset.
- Effective communication skills using the English language
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with retail systems (POS, inventory, ordering) is an asset.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing demands.
- Ability to deliver strong customer service and resolve customer concerns effectively is an asset.

Conditions of Employment:
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Criminal Record check satisfactory to the employer
- Ability to work flexible shifts including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. (23kg) and stand for long periods of time.
