Job Description:

As our Marketing Content Specialist, Advisor Content & Creative, you will translate marketing strategies and business objectives into clear, effective content and creative approaches that connect with target audiences and drive the intended action across digital and print platforms.

You are a strong content creator and strategic storyteller who can determine what to say, how to say it and how messaging should adapt across audiences, channels and stages of the advisor and Client journey. Creativity is in your DNA, and you use audience insight, plain language and compelling storytelling to create relevant, high-impact communications.

You will work with advisors, distribution leaders and internal partners across Canada to understand their value propositions, target audiences, business objectives and content needs, helping elevate their marketing through more consistent, intuitive and audience-focused communications.

You thrive in a fast-paced creative environment, like to work in consultation with partners and advisors, are bold, resilient, open to collaboration and are an expert in digital content marketing best practices.

The Marketing Content Specialist reports to the Manager, Content, Advisor Content & Creative within Distribution & Channel Marketing. The Advisor Content & Creative team is accountable for defining, designing and delivering marketing programs and content experiences. We help position Sun Life advisors’ distinctive value propositions for targeting Clients and driving leads, sales and Client engagement, and we support independent advisors in choosing to place business with Sun Life.

What will you do?

• Collaborate with designers, strategy teams and subject matter experts to shape creative concepts, messaging platforms and content that influences audiences across targeted email, web, social, video and other channels.
• Develop content for individual initiatives by determining the right message, proof points, tone and calls to action for different audiences, channels and contexts.
• Create content that consistently captures the Sun Life brand voice that is “relentlessly human” while remaining relatable, simple, clever and appropriate for the audience and channel.
• Turn complex business, product and industry information into clear, engaging and audience-appropriate communications using plain language, benefit-oriented storytelling and compliant, error-free execution.
• Support field communications by turning business updates, priorities and advisor-facing information into clear, timely and actionable messages for sales teams and other field audiences.
• Manage assigned content initiatives from brief to delivery by clarifying the ask, confirming audiences, channels, requirements, reviewers, timelines and key milestones.
• Develop and maintain creative briefs, content plans and workback schedules that help align partners, manage dependencies and keep work moving efficiently through review and delivery.
• Connect content across the end-to-end experience and broader content ecosystem, identifying opportunities to create a more consistent Client journey, cohesive storytelling and reusable content across channels rather than approaching each tactic as a standalone deliverable.
• Use audience feedback, performance results, advisor and Client insights, testing and other measures to strengthen content, applying learnings to future creative and content decisions.
• Act as a content and creative subject-matter expert by constructively challenging briefs or requests, recommending trade-offs and alternative approaches when another solution could better meet the business objective, audience need or end-to-end experience.

What do you need to succeed?

• Excellent content development, copywriting and marketing or sales experience to create effective communications and support marketing or sales programs as part of a collaborative team.
• Ability to take advanced industry, business and product concepts and distill them into simple, engaging, relatable and audience-appropriate content.
• Take bold initiative by generating creative solutions, monitoring content and digital trends, applying audience insight and recommending content approaches that enhance the team’s ability to meet its goals.
• Ability to develop content for different audiences: advisors, wholesalers, end investor
• Highly organized, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize work while executing on several projects simultaneously.
• Ability to embrace change and adapt to constantly evolving business and Client priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills: must be able to consult, influence, build alignment, negotiate, build trust and provide constructive content guidance to people from diverse backgrounds and levels throughout the organization.
• Ability to leverage AI and other technology tools to scale, automate and enhance the content strategy and execution

What will be nice to have:

• Post-secondary education in marketing, journalism or communication-related field or relevant work experience.
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in marketing promotions, content development, content marketing, digital content or related roles with strong copywriting experience.
• Knowledge of financial industry, wealth and insurance concepts
• Proven experience creating content for social (organic and paid), web and email.
• Thorough understanding of social media platforms, including advertising, and how they support other digital marketing efforts.
• Previous experience working in insurance and financial services industry.
