Manager Software, GBAD Command & Control

Want to influence the bigger picture? At Saab, you can realise amazing innovations that keep people and societies safe. Together, we can truly make an impact – and your part matters.

About the role

As Manager Software within GBAD Command & Control, you will lead and develop software organizations delivering mission-critical capabilities that make a real difference.

This is a role for someone who is passionate about both people and technology. You understand software development from the inside, perhaps because you have previously worked as a developer, architect, or technical lead yourself. Over time, you discovered that your greatest impact comes from enabling others to succeed.

As a leader, you create the conditions for high-performing teams through trust, clarity, and collaboration. You understand that sustainable delivery is built by engaged people, strong engineering practices, and a shared sense of purpose.

You will be part of the SW Development Management Team and play a key role in shaping our software strategy, engineering culture, and ways of working.

Your role

• Lead, coach, and develop software engineers and team leaders.
• Create an environment where people can thrive, grow, and perform at their best.
• Drive excellence in software development, quality, architecture, and delivery.
• Foster agile ways of working, continuous learning, and continuous improvement.
• Support technical decision-making and promote sustainable engineering practices.
• Collaborate closely with product management, systems engineering, and customers.
• Build long-term organizational capability through recruitment, competence development, and succession planning.

Your profile

• A background in software development and a genuine interest in modern software engineering.
• Several years of leadership experience within software development or technology-driven organizations.
• Experience working with complex software-intensive products and systems.
• A solid understanding of Agile principles, DevOps, CI/CD, and product-oriented development.
• The ability to engage in meaningful discussions with developers, architects, and technical leaders.
• An MSc/BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Who you are

Most likely, you started your career in software development and have gradually grown into leadership roles. While you may not spend your days writing code anymore, you understand the craft, the challenges, and what it takes for engineering teams to succeed.

You are a servant leader who creates trust, removes obstacles, and enables teams to deliver their best work. You combine technical understanding with strong people leadership and believe that engaged teams are the foundation of successful products.

Prestige is not important to you. You are approachable, humble, and comfortable rolling up your sleeves when needed. At the same time, you bring the drive, energy, and communication skills required to create alignment, move things forward, and deliver results in a complex environment.

This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.

What you will be part of

Explore a wealth of possibilities. Take on challenges, create smart inventions, and grow beyond. This is a place for curious minds, brave pioneers, and everyone in between. Together, we achieve the extraordinary, each bringing our unique perspectives. Your part matters.
