Overview (Scope of Role)
The Maintenance Engineer provides technical support to the maintenance department by continuously monitoring equipment condition, providing recommendations and solutions to keep the plant’s equipment operating at peak performance. The successful person must be able to work independently as well as with the maintenance team to support production operations and implement projects that achieve department and corporate goals.
Must be able to independently troubleshoot issues, define project scope, and execute on assigned action items, interact with contractors and vendors, and be able to travel when needed. Excellent troubleshooting skills and a sound understanding of engineering best practices is required. This position reports to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager.
Responsibilities
- Works under the general direction of the Engineering and Maintenance Manager. The successful person works closely with the maintenance supervisor, reliability engineer, mechanics, and technicians providing them with engineering support.
- Upgrade troublesome, end-of-life or obsolete equipment:
- Provide estimated costs for upgrade to upper management. Develop capital appropriations request and project management through the entire installation process.
- Develop specifications, CAD drawings, solicit vendors for equipment proposals, purchase equipment, and work with internal resources or contractors to install the new equipment.
- Continuously monitor maintenance expense spending investigating ways to reduce costs. As needed, develop capital appropriations request to manage major expenditures.
- Provide detailed troubleshooting skills to increase the equipment uptime
- Locate vendors, fabricators, contractors for goods or services needed by the maintenance dept.
- Provide input for critical spare parts list
- Develop parts lists for frequently repaired items within MVP One CMMS
- Provide budget data for maintenance department as well as capital project development
- Provide input for the Preventative Maintenance program, PM work instructions and Mechanical Integrity program
- Performs root cause analysis on equipment failures to prevent recurrence.
- Provide backup duties for the maintenance supervisor as needed. Additionally, provide on-call support to the maintenance dept.
- Provide support in developing or updating maintenance dept. safe job operating procedures
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience in a chemical or plastics manufacturing environment.
- Track record of solving problems that result in improved on stream time and decreased operating cost.
- Practical experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, preferably MVP One.
- Strong process troubleshooting skills
