ANNUAL SALARY: $96,523.93
LOCATION: Remote, East Coast Only

PURPOSE: The Logistics Assistant is responsible for providing programmatic and administrative support to the Geography Department in the coordination and implementation of key programs and projects. They will also support union-wide initiatives and serve as a liaison with staff, officers and external contacts throughout the union.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Any one position may not include all of the specific duties and responsibilities listed. Examples provide a general summary of the work required and should not be treated as a total and complete list of expected duties to be performed by employees in the classification.
- Provide administrative support to assigned Geography Teams, including but not limited to scheduling meetings, creating meeting agendas and taking meeting notes.
- Processing of invoices and contracts in the Union’s financial portal, ensuring policy adherence and accuracy of billing and payment details.
- Tracking contracts, vendor payments and financial transactions with locals, vendors and partner organizations
- Using purchase requisitions for the purchasing of supplies and for specific programs. Maintain, manage and reconcile the department purchasing card.
- Arrange travel logistics including, but not limited to flights, car rentals, and hotel accommodations for local members as needed to support various campaigns.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels, from peers to senior executives, and adapt communication to different working styles and perspectives.
- Play a key role in the planning and execution of Department-wide meetings, retreats, and initiatives.
- Lead on logistical support for key meetings and events for the Geography Team
- Provide on site support for meetings as needed
- Handle sensitive issues that require high-levels of confidentiality;
- Adhere to strict deadlines for completion of all assigned work;
- Ensures that all responsibilities are carried out with careful attention to equity and through use of a racial justice lens.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned in support of the program.
CONTACTS: SEIU Executive Officers and various senior leaders; Geography Team leadership and staff; Political, Community and Union leaders and staff; SEIU International staff, and employers.
DIRECTION & DECISION MAKING: This position reports to the Deputy Director of Member Engagement, Politics and Government and works independently and often without supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three (3) years of related work experience OR a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Previous experience working with financial systems and institutions through processes such as accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Familiarity with coordinating offsite meetings including procuring hotel rates, reading and processing associated contracts and confirmations as well as, booking meeting rooms with and without specific AV, set up or accessibility requirements.
- Must be able to handle multiple, complex, projects simultaneously and meet established deadlines.
- Outstanding writing, verbal, and analytical communication skills.
- Knowledge of labor unions and their operation.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite programs.
- A high level of judgment and ability to take initiative.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of SEIU leaders, SEIU members, and staff in complex and political situations.
- Ability to exercise limited independent judgment and make decisions in consultation with peers or higher-level managers.
- A high level of curiosity about SEIU and social/economic justice movements.
- Passion for improving the lives of SEIU members and working people everywhere.
- Ability to model consistently the vision and values of the union, as well as our leadership standards
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally performed in an office setting, but may be required to work in other settings conducive to performing the work required to complete the assignment, such as field assignments. Long and extended hours and travel may be required.
