Linux Administrator – Hardware Specialist

What will your work week look like?

You'll be our go-to person for the physical layer of the infrastructure. We have a large web and mail infrastructure physically located in three data centers across two European countries. Hundreds of servers, switches, cables, disks, petabytes of customer data, and someone has to keep all of it in order. You'll be the person who knows what's in which rack, what condition it's in, and what will need to be expanded or replaced in the near future.

Data centers and hardware

• When a batch of new servers arrives, you rack them, cable them, set up the network, and prepare them for installation.

• You handle hardware problems: replacing disks, RAM, power supplies, and other components. For more complicated in-warranty repairs, a specialized technician can be requested to do the replacement.

• You keep the racks and the office storage room in order: cables, server inventory, decommissioning, capacity planning.

• You handle warranty claims and may eventually also communicate with data centers, hardware suppliers, and take part in audits.

• The hardware part takes up roughly half of your working time, and may increase later.

Linux infrastructure

• Beyond that, you'll be managing our internal and hosting Linux infrastructure.

• You'll take part in improving and automating existing solutions, along with regular upgrades. Our infrastructure is built on the following technologies (don't worry, we don't expect you to know all of them): Ubuntu, LXD, Nginx, ZFS, MariaDB, Postfix, Dovecot, Kubernetes, Zabbix, and many more. It's a great opportunity to learn a wide range of technologies. We manage the infrastructure using the config management tools SaltStack and Ansible.

• Three to four times a month, you’re on-call for the infrastructure for the entire day. On that day, as the on-duty person, your primary job is resolving problems reported by our Zabbix monitoring or by colleagues. For serious problems, the monitoring alerts you directly on your phone. You step in and fix the issue, ideally so that it doesn't happen again. Don’t worry, if needed, the whole team is ready to help you get through an outage, even in the middle of the night.

What we expect from you

• Hands-on hardware experience: racking, cabling, replacing components, diagnosing hardware failures. You know the differences between RAID levels and are comfortable with IPMI/KVM.

• Several years of practical experience managing Linux servers, deploying software, monitoring, and upgrades at the command-line level.

• You understand networking principles and technologies. Subnetting, configuring a network with static IP addresses, NAT, and firewalls are no problem for you.

• You have experience with automation and scripting (IaC, Bash/Shell, Python...).

• You approach problems analytically and come up with solutions.

• English at B2 level or higher and a driving license, since you’ll travel to the data centers.

Bonus points

• Experience with enterprise server hardware (Dell, Supermicro, HPE) and data center environments (PSU, UPS, structured cabling, fiber optics...).

• CCNA courses and experience configuring Cisco/Dell/Juniper switches or similar enterprise systems.

• Examples of your own projects on Git or deployed in the cloud.

What to expect from us

• Space for yourself: We understand that everyone works differently. That's why we're happy to talk about when and how you work best. Flexible working hours, the option to work remotely, and 7 extra days off to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance.

• Well-being: A healthy body means a healthy mind, and vice versa. We contribute 50% towards your Multisport card to help you stay in shape, and online therapy via Hedepy supports your mental well-being. On top of that, you get a €5 meal allowance, even on vacation days or doctor’s appointments.

• Growth opportunities: We care about helping our people grow. You’ll have opportunities to attend lectures and conferences and improve your English. We also organize Health Days and workshops on a variety of topics to support both your professional and personal development.

• Support from an experienced team: You’ll work alongside colleagues who are happy to help in areas where you may feel less confident and help you become your best self. There will always be someone you can turn to.

• Trust in your abilities: Your opinion matters to us. You’ll always have the opportunity to share your ideas, contribute to discussions, and help shape the solutions we build. We know that great ideas can come from anywhere.

• Company culture: Hackathons, breakfasts, Christmas parties, summer parties, Kids Day, after-work drinks, and welcoming new colleagues. We enjoy all of this together in our spacious offices near Nivy with parking, refreshments, a terrace, massages, and excellent coffee.

• Project days: Experiment and try out new technologies. We welcome any ideas for improving the infrastructure.

• MacBook and iPhone with a data plan: We primarily work on Apple devices.

Stovky serverov, switche, káble, disky, petabajty zákazníckych dát, a to všetko musí niekto držať v poriadku.

  Datacentrá a hardware

  • Keď príde várka nových serverov, zarackuješ ich, pozapájaš, nastavíš network a pripravíš na inštaláciu.

  • Riešiš HW problémy - výmena diskov, RAM, zdrojov a iné komponenty.

Infraštruktúru spravujeme pomocou config managementu SaltStack a Ansible.

  • 3 až 4-krát do mesiaca máš celodenný dohľad nad celou infraštruktúrou.

  • Niekoľkoročné praktické skúsenosti so správou Linuxových servov, nasadzovaním softvéru, monitoringu a následnými upgradmi na úrovni príkazového riadku.

  • Rozumieš sieťovým princípom a technológiám. Nerobí ti problém subnetting, konfigurovanie vlastnej siete pomocou statických IP adries, NAT, Firewall.

  • Máš skúsenosti s automatizáciou a skriptovaním (IaC, Bash/Shell, Python...).

  • Dokážeš analyticky riešiť problémy a prísť s riešením.

  • Angličtina na úrovni aspoň B2 a vodičský preukaz, kvôli datacentrám.
