The SFO is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide prosecution services, legal advice, and policy support on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, this position will support the enforcement of provincial and federal firearms legislation and represent the SFO in judicial proceedings.
This position offers a unique opportunity to practice litigation in a specialized regulatory and public safety environment, while contributing to the development of provincial firearms policy and programming.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and aligned with Crown Counsel guidelines in Saskatchewan. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a criminal record check and an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Screening. Use of a personal vehicle for travel may be required.

As Legal Counsel, you will:
- Conduct prosecutions under the Saskatchewan Firearms Act
- Represent the SFO in Firearms Act (Canada) reference hearings and related proceedings
- Provide legal advice and support to SFO personnel and justice system partners
- Conduct legal research and prepare opinions, briefs, and submissions
- Draft and review policies, procedures, and legislative materials
- Deliver education and presentations to justice system partners, law enforcement, and stakeholders
- Support the development and implementation of enforcement strategies and compliance initiatives

Technical Knowledge and Skills:
As our successful candidate, you will possess:
- Knowledge of criminal law, provincial offences, and administrative law principles
- Knowledge of evidentiary requirements and court procedures
- Ability to conduct prosecutions and present cases effectively in court
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy
- Superior written and oral advocacy skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Effective case management and organizational skills
- Excellent research and analytical skills, including the ability to apply legal concepts to fact situations using judgment and discretion
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex legal arguments
You must:
- Be eligible for membership and, on an ongoing basis, maintain membership in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan
- Be experienced in litigation, preferably in criminal law and/or provincial offences
- Successfully complete a criminal record check
- Successfully complete an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Clearance
- Hold a valid restricted firearms licence (RPAL) or able to obtain one
- Hold a valid Class 5 driver's licence and be able to travel if needed
We are seeking lawyers who demonstrate:
- Experience with access to information and protection of privacy legislation
- Experience working in a law enforcement or regulatory environment
- Experience with CJIMS or similar justice information systems
- Experience and proficiency with computer software applications including legal research applications and MS Office
- The ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with justice system partners
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-demand environment with competing priorities with lawyers and other professionals
