Legal Counsel — Construction & Commercial Law

Legal Counsel — Construction & Commercial Law

Ontario | Full-Time, Permanent | 3–5 Years of Call (Ontario)

Current Vacancy

Build Your In-House Practice Here

We are a growing Ontario-based group of companies with two distinct but connected businesses: a construction division delivering design-build and construction management projects, and a data centre division that develops, designs, and operates critical infrastructure. With roughly 150 people across the organization, we are operationally sophisticated and commercially active — and our legal function sits at the centre of everything we do.

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our in-house team. This is a rare opportunity for a construction lawyer with 3–5 years of call to move in-house, develop genuine breadth across a full-service legal practice, and grow with a business at an exciting stage of its evolution.

What You Will Do

With our construction team you will spend time drafting, reviewing, and negotiating construction contracts and subcontracts — principally CCDC standard forms and their supplementary conditions — and advising our project teams on contract administration, claims, payment obligations, and dispute avoidance. You will work directly with project managers and senior leaders to provide practical, deal-enabling legal advice across the full project lifecycle.

With our data centre team you will support the development program through out each stage of a project from land acquisition, permitting, financing, leasing and operations. The remainder of your time will be spent on general legal matters: commercial contracts, employment law support, finance-related reviews, and compliance work. In our lean in-house team, no two days look the same, and you will have genuine exposure to the full range of matters that support two sophisticated operating businesses.

What You Bring

• 3-5 years post-call with membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• Solid grounding in construction law — you know your way around CCDC forms, understand Construction Act mechanics including prompt payment and adjudication, and have advised on real construction matters.
• Strong drafting and negotiation skills; you can spot the risk, explain it plainly, and help find a workable path forward.
• A collaborative, pragmatic mindset — you are a problem-solver first, and you know that the best legal advice is advice that the business can actually use.
• Comfort managing competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.
• Prior in-house experience is an asset, though not required — we are happy to support a motivated private practice lawyer making the transition.

What You Bring

• Direct exposure to complex, high-value construction and infrastructure projects from day one.
• A true in-house generalist platform — construction and development are the anchor, but you will grow across commercial, employment, and corporate matters.
• A collaborative team environment where your work is visible, your contributions matter, and your development is supported.
• Competitive compensation commensurate with in-house market rates for an Ontario lawyer at your level of call.
• A business that values legal counsel as a genuine partner in its success, not just a service function.

Please submit your resume and cover letter to [email protected]. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
