About This Opportunity

This is a great opportunity to join the School of Architecture, Design and Planning (ADP) as a Lecturer in Architectural Design, bringing expertise in Architectural Technology and Architectural Science.

This newly created role offers the opportunity to shape the future of architectural design at a world top 40 university. Join a collaborative and supportive environment where teaching, research, and industry engagement thrive, with access to leading facilities and opportunities to inspire the next generation of design professionals.

As the built environment evolves, this role will advance UQ’s teaching and research in architectural technology and design. You will contribute with your expertise in digital and computational design, BIM, sustainability, fabrication technologies, and AI, while collaborating across disciplines and industry to prepare graduates for future challenges in the built environment.

We welcome applicants who may prefer a different service fraction—please indicate your preferred arrangement in your cover letter. Flexible options, including job share, may be considered to accommodate the right candidate. If you are ready to make your mark in a world-class institution that invests in its people and their potential, we would love to hear from you.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Inspire through teaching – Shape the future of architecture with engaging, innovative courses, lectures and tutorials that connect theory to real-world practice, particularly in mainstreams of architectural technology, architectural science, and tectonics. This helps connecting spatial theory directly with computational methods to ensure technology supports critical design thinking rather than a separate software stream.

• Lead impactful research – Build a strong research profile, publish in leading international journals, and secure funding to drive change across the built environment sector and in collaboration with other sectors/disciplines.

• Mentor future leaders – Guide and support Honours and Higher Degree by Research students to thrive as the next generation of architectural designers/scientists and design innovators.

• Engage and connect – Collaborate with colleagues, industry, government and the wider community while contributing to UQ’s vibrant academic culture.

• Drive technological innovation – Support the School's strategic priorities in architectural technology by integrating digital design methodologies, computational design, building performance analysis, architectural tectonics, AI-assisted design, sustainable construction, and emerging technologies into teaching, research and industry engagement. This also includes human-led critique and validation of AI outputs, including bias, authorship, copyright, automation and local contextual relevance.

This is a teaching & research position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance.

About You

• A PhD in Architecture/Architectural Design, Architectural Science, Architectural Technology, or a related discipline.

• A growing profile in teaching and research in architecture, architectural technology or architectural science/tectonics.

• A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

• Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing internal and external research funding.

• Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups/classrooms.

• Experience in course coordination and contribution to the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.

• Evidence of capability in computational and generative design, digital fabrication and building-performance tools, including critical and ethical teaching practice.

• Technically skilled and experienced, with a strong understanding of construction materials, systems and processes and their impact on documentation and detailing
