Lead Software Engineer, C#, C++, Rust

Lead Software Engineer, C#, C++, Rust

A Lead Software Engineer opportunity has emerged within a world-renowned organisation, where your code will directly influence business-critical systems. This is a rare senior role sitting at the intersection of high-performance software, real-time data systems, and cutting-edge engineering. Ready to take technical ownership of work that truly matters?

The Role

The Lead Software Engineer will head up a team of three to five engineers, guiding architectural decisions, setting quality standards, and taking end-to-end ownership across a broad and sophisticated software estate. Day-to-day, you will work across systems that sit at the heart of this organisation — from telemetry and real-time communications platforms to simulation tools and analysis pipelines used by key stakeholders. This is a hands-on leadership position; you will remain a working engineer contributing directly to design and code, not simply directing from a distance.

A significant part of this role involves helping to evolve legacy desktop applications into modern solutions — so an understanding of that migration journey is a real advantage here. The team works across a deliberately broad stack: C++ and C# for desktop and backend services, Rust for performance-critical work, React and TypeScript on the front end, AI tooling is actively embraced across the group, and an enthusiasm for applying it pragmatically will be welcomed.

The Company

This is a genuinely rare chance to join one of the most technically ambitious organisations in the area. The business has a long heritage in high-performance engineering and is currently on an exciting journey to modernise its software foundations and return to the very front of the competitive landscape. The team is invested in building world-class internal technology that has real, measurable consequences — the software you build affects outcomes in competition.

What experience does the Lead Software Engineer need?

• Very strong software development experience, including in a management or lead role, with a strong track record of mentoring engineers and taking architectural ownership of complex, concurrent projects
• Practical experience with C#
• Experience with C++, Rust, or both, alongside comfort working across a mixed stack that includes Python and TypeScript — experience with control systems or telemetry is a strong advantage
• Solid knowledge of distributed systems and real-time streaming technologies such as Kafka or WebSockets, plus familiarity with a range of data persistence approaches including relational, document, and time-series stores
• Confidence with modern DevOps practices including CI/CD, containerisation, and infrastructure-as-code, along with a genuine enthusiasm for adopting AI tooling

Benefits

• Competitive holiday allowance and a subsidised onsite restaurant
• 24/7 gym access plus complimentary fitness classes including Pilates, Yoga, and outdoor sessions
• A range of car schemes and free onsite parking with pleasant green spaces
• Regular staff events within a vibrant, high-energy team culture
