Great software is built by great engineers. Great engineering teams are built by great technical leaders.
As part of continued investment in a nationally significant technology platform, we're recruiting multiple Lead Java Developers to help shape the future of several business-critical enterprise applications.
These are hands-on technical leadership roles where you'll remain close to the code while setting engineering direction, mentoring developers and helping build high-performing Agile teams.
If you're the person others turn to for technical guidance, difficult architectural decisions or thoughtful coaching, we'd love to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing
Working within one of several Agile product teams, you'll provide technical leadership across the full software development lifecycle.
You'll partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Test Engineers and fellow developers to deliver secure, scalable solutions that support important operational outcomes across New Zealand.
You'll still be writing code, but you'll also be lifting those around you—creating an environment where engineers can do their best work, maintaining high engineering standards and helping your team continually improve.
What we’re looking for
- Spring Boot
- React
- Extensive experience building enterprise applications
- Strong solution design and architecture skills
- Experience leading software engineering teams
- A genuine passion for coaching and mentoring developers
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills

This is an opportunity to influence more than just the software.
You'll help shape engineering culture, mentor talented developers, improve delivery practices and contribute to products that continue to evolve over many years. Your technical leadership will have a lasting impact on both the people around you and the systems your team builds.
Based in Porirua, this is a team that genuinely enjoys working together. Technical discussions happen around whiteboards as often as they do online, making the office an important part of how they collaborate. If you're north of Wellington, you'll also appreciate avoiding the daily crawl into the CBD.
Multiple permanent opportunities are available, offering the chance to join a mature engineering environment where leadership is earned through technical credibility, collaboration and a commitment to helping others succeed.
If you're ready to lead from the front, build exceptional software and develop exceptional engineers, we'd love to hear from you
