Job Title : Lead Full-Stack Engineer
Salary : 400-500/hour
Work Setup : Remote
Employment Type: Part-time
About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Lead Full-Stack Engineer to take ownership of the technical development and ongoing operation of an existing custom apparel e-commerce platform.
The platform connects product selection, online design, pricing, artwork approval, checkout, and production coordination for businesses, schools, teams, and organizations. This role is not simply about building new features—you will take over an existing application, understand how its systems work together, identify areas for improvement, and turn business requirements into practical, reliable solutions.
Working closely with the Business Owner, you will make technical decisions, manage development priorities, improve existing workflows, and carry projects from planning through release.
The role starts at 20 hours per week and is expected to grow into a full-time position with an equity opportunity as the platform and business expand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of the existing codebase, architecture, integrations, deployment, and technical improvement roadmap.
- Build and maintain customer storefronts, design studio, customer accounts, admin tools, and school storefronts using TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, and PostgreSQL.
- Develop and improve product catalogs, garment variants, pricing, quotes, artwork approvals, checkout, and order tracking.
- Maintain and improve supplier feeds, CRM, payments, tax, shipping, webhooks, background jobs, and transactional notifications, while automating repetitive business processes.
- Enhance AI-assisted artwork, image processing, background removal, design tools, and production-ready artwork exports.
- Troubleshoot production issues, improve performance, and maintain reliable data synchronization, monitoring, background processing, and platform operations.
- Manage authentication, role-based access, secrets, database migrations, automated testing, GitHub workflows, and production deployments.
- Use Codex, Claude Code, and other AI coding tools for codebase exploration, implementation, debugging, and testing, with independent review and verification.
- Work directly with the Business Owner to translate business requirements into practical solutions, prioritize development, explain technical trade-offs, and deliver measurable improvements.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of professional full-stack development experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Next.js, and Node.js.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL, APIs, authentication, payments, webhooks, and background processing.
- Experience taking ownership of and improving an existing production codebase.
- Proficiency with Git/GitHub, testing, CI/CD, deployment, debugging, and monitoring.
- Experience integrating AI APIs, automation tools, and third-party services.
- Familiarity with Supabase, Clerk, Stripe, Vercel, GitHub Actions, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, independent judgment, and execution skills.
Nice to Have (Optional):
- Experience with e-commerce, custom apparel, supplier integrations, Stripe, Zoho, Supabase, Vercel, GitHub Actions, MCP, Fabric.js, AI APIs, and workflow automation.
What You Can Expect:
- Technical Ownership: Take meaningful ownership of an existing platform and influence its technical direction and architecture.
- Business Impact: Work directly with the Business Owner to build systems that improve sales, operational capacity, and customer experience
- AI & Automation: Apply AI tools, APIs, and automation to eliminate repetitive manual processes and improve business workflows
- End-to-End Responsibility: Work across frontend, backend, databases, integrations, infrastructure, and production operations
- Direct Collaboration: Work closely with the owner in person to understand business operations and turn ideas into working solutions
Note:
This role is for an engineer who can take ownership of an existing production application, investigate unfamiliar systems, make sound technical decisions, and independently manage work from problem identification through implementation, testing, and release.
