Lead Data & Analytics Engineer (Builder-Lead Role)

Build the data backbone for AI-powered optimization.

This is a hands-on builder-lead role. You will shape the architecture, write code, make important technical decisions, and help grow the engineering capability around you. Approximately 70% of your time will be hands-on engineering and architecture, with the remaining time focused on technical leadership and mentoring.

AIMMS is building the next generation of data and AI capabilities for enterprise decision-making in areas such as supply chain and energy. We are looking for a Lead Data & Analytics Engineer to help turn this vision into production software.

Your first mission: SENSAI Data Ready

You will begin with product ownership for SENSAI Data Ready, an AI-native product that addresses one of the biggest bottlenecks in supply-chain analytics.

Preparing large, imperfect customer datasets for optimization models can take weeks of manual work. SENSAI enables supply-chain analysts to use conversational, agentic AI to inspect, join, validate, and transform multi-million-row datasets into reusable execution recipes—in minutes.

From there, your scope will grow to defining and building the shared, persistent data backbone that enables future AIMMS applications.

This is how you make a difference:

• Design and build scalable data products for large datasets

• Develop reliable AI-agent workflows for data inspection, transformation, and validation

• Solve challenging problems involving SQL generation, schema drift, joins, performance, and data quality

• Define the architecture and technical direction of the AIMMS Data Backbone

• Build production-quality services, APIs, tests, and CI/CD pipelines

• Research, prototype, and evaluate new technologies

• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the team

• Work closely with Product, domain experts, and technical leadership

What Will Help You Thrive and Be Successful

You do not need to match every item below. We are looking for a software-first engineer with strong data foundations, sound technical judgment, and the motivation to build something meaningful from zero to one.

• 6+ years of experience in backend, platform, or data-intensive software engineering

• Strong hands-on skills in Python and SQL

• Experience building reliable backend services and data products

• Familiarity with technologies such as FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, DuckDB, PostgreSQL, Spark, or Polars

• Experience delivering B2B SaaS or enterprise software

• A software engineering mindset focused on maintainability, performance, and reliability

• Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical decisions

• Experience building AI agents, tool calling, evaluations, and production guardrails

• Comfort taking ownership in an ambiguous, greenfield environment

Experience with Azure, C/C++, mathematical optimization, supply chain, or decision-support systems is a plus.

Life at AIMMS: The Good Stuff

You’ll step into a role where your work is visible, valued, and has direct impact on our growth—within a company that combines stability with ambition.

Impact & environment

• Greenfield platform engineering: Design and build a brand-new data backbone from the ground up, backed by the scale and stability of an established product company.

• Complex, high-impact problems: Work at the intersection of agentic AI, large-scale data systems, and mission-critical optimization challenges.

• True technical ownership: Shape architecture, technology choices, and the engineering culture while staying hands-on in the code.

• Pragmatic, low-ego culture: Work with kind, curious, and collaborative colleagues in an open environment built on trust, transparency, and short communication lines.

• Great setup: Hybrid flexibility with a collaborative office in Haarlem, competitive compensation, and strong support for personal and technical growth.

Reward & benefits

• Competitive salary.

• Fully paid pension.

• Hybrid work

• 30 vacation days to properly recharge.

• A culture that prioritizes continuous learning and skill development through coaching and training.

• ‘Short-term remote friendly’ the freedom to occasionally work from abroad, in alignment with the team.

If you want to build production-grade data platforms and AI agents for high-impact optimization products, we would love to hear from you.

AIMMS: Who We Are (and why it matters)

It all started in 1989, when we saw a huge untapped potential for mathematical optimization. Since then, AIMMS has touched many aspects of people’s daily lives—from the electricity delivered to our homes and the distribution of vaccines to emission-reduction policymaking. Today, as a product-led SaaS company, we support industries worldwide—from logistics to sustainability—enabling smarter, faster, and greener choices.

We’re a diverse, collaborative, and curious team of over 20 nationalities, with offices in the Netherlands (Haarlem HQ), the US, and Singapore. Working in a self-organized, hybrid way across the globe, we’re guided by four core values - Integrity, Care, Open, and Ambition - which help us give honest feedback, care deeply for our stakeholders, collaborate across teams, and continuously grow our impact.

How AIMMS made impact:
Our platform was used to build applications that helps state utilities buy electricity from hundreds of power stations, ensuring companies and consumers always have power. We optimize daily and real-time purchasing decisions to minimize costs, maintain network stability, and reliably meet demand.
