€46,487–€69,737 gross/year (placement depends on relevant experience and skills) · Hybrid (2 days on-site per week) · Permanent, full-time
About the role
You'll keep one or more defence software Squads moving, running ceremonies, clearing blockers, and turning Agile principles into daily practice, with senior Scrum Masters and Agile Coaches alongside you as you find your footing. This is a permanent role in a Spotify-inspired organisation (Squads, Chapters, Tribes), and the mentoring structure is a deliberate design feature, not a vague promise.
What you'll do
- Facilitate Scrum ceremonies, Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Reviews, Retrospectives and Backlog Refinement, so your Squad leaves each session with clarity and a workable plan.
- Identify and remove impediments that slow delivery, escalating where needed and working with stakeholders to keep momentum.
- Partner with Market Product Managers on backlog refinement, sprint readiness and prioritisation so the Squad is always working on the right things.
- Collaborate with Tech Writers to make sure documentation is planned and aligned with sprint goals, not bolted on afterwards.
- Monitor team health and track Agile metrics, using what you learn to support continuous improvement in ways of working.
- Coordinate with other Scrum Masters, Chapters and stakeholders to surface and manage cross-Squad dependencies before they become blockers.
What success looks like
Over time, your Squads run ceremonies that feel purposeful rather than routine: the team arrives prepared, leaves aligned, and the retrospective actually changes something. Impediments get named early and resolved rather than accumulating. You start spotting dependency risks before they surface as problems, and your collaboration with Market Product Managers and Tech Writers becomes a natural part of the Squad rhythm rather than a coordination overhead.
What you bring
- Up to two years of experience in an Agile environment, as a Scrum Master, Project Coordinator, Business Analyst, QA or a comparable role where you worked alongside or within Agile ceremonies.
- Working knowledge of Scrum and Agile principles, conceptual fluency you can apply in a real Squad, not necessarily a certification.
- Facilitation and communication skills strong enough to keep a room moving and surface issues without creating friction.
- Organisational discipline to track dependencies and keep multiple moving parts visible.
- Ability to build working relationships across multidisciplinary teams, including people in technical, product and writing roles.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain the required national or NATO security clearance for this role. ILIAS Solutions supports candidates through the clearance process and is glad to explain what is involved before you apply.
If you meet most of the above, we encourage you to apply. The eligibility requirement for the required security authorisation is not flexible.
Nice to have
- PSM I or CSM certification, if you already hold one, great; if not, that is fine.
- Hands-on experience in a Spotify-inspired organisation with Squads, Chapters and Tribes.
- Exposure to Agile metrics and structured retrospective or improvement practices.
- Familiarity with tools like Jira or comparable Agile board software.
Why ILIAS Solutions
ILIAS Solutions builds software that defence organisations use to maintain operational readiness. The work is consequential and the standards reflect that. The Agile practice here is mature enough to have structure and honest enough to design junior roles that come with real support.
As a junior Scrum Master, you'll work with a breadth of collaborators, Market Product Managers, Tech Writers, Chapter leads, that most organisations only expose mid-level practitioners to. The scope starts at one or two Squads, which is the right size to build genuine ownership before taking on more.
ILIAS Solutions is part of the Patria Group.
What we offer
- Mentoring from experienced Scrum Masters and Agile Coaches.
- Learning, training and professional certification opportunities.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Hybrid schedule: 2 days on-site per week.
Eligibility
ILIAS Solutions is an equal-opportunity employer. We select on merit and welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, national origin, religion or belief, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity, in line with Dutch equal-treatment law (Algemene wet gelijke behandeling) and EU anti-discrimination law. Reasonable accommodations are available on request.
Given the nature of our work, this role may require eligibility under applicable export-control regulations and the ability to obtain national or NATO security clearance. Eligibility is assessed lawfully and per role; requirements are discussed during selection. Candidates are not excluded on the basis of nationality except where required by applicable export-control or security-clearance law.
