Salary: $3,000 – $4,500 per month
About the Role
Are you interested in computer hardware, x86 servers and customised workstations? Do you enjoy comparing components, understanding how systems work and putting together the right configuration for a specific requirement?
Taknet Systems is looking for a Junior Presales Engineer to work closely with our Sales team in preparing technical configurations, Bills of Materials (BOMs), costing and proposals for server and workstation solutions.
Your focus will be to help the Sales team recommend technically suitable, complete and competitively priced solutions that meet customer requirements.
Fresh graduates with a strong interest in computer hardware are encouraged to apply. Prior presales experience is not required. Candidates with 1–3 years of relevant experience in IT hardware, technical support, system integration or presales are also welcome.
Training and guidance will be provided, with more complex configurations reviewed by experienced technical colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Support and Customer Requirements
Work closely with Account Managers to understand customer requirements, intended applications, budgets and delivery expectations.
Assist the Sales team in recommending suitable x86 servers, customised workstations and related hardware.
Prepare technical specifications, product comparisons and supporting information for quotations and proposals.
Join customer discussions with the Sales team when required, helping to clarify technical requirements and follow up on questions.
BOM Preparation and Configuration
Prepare and maintain accurate BOMs, including the correct part numbers, descriptions, quantities and required accessories.
Assist in selecting suitable processors, motherboards, memory, graphics cards, storage, networking components, chassis, power supplies and cooling.
Check component compatibility and configuration requirements using manufacturer documentation, configuration tools and vendor guidance.
Identify missing components, unsuitable specifications or potential configuration issues, and escalate uncertainties for review before quotation.
Maintain clear BOM versions and ensure changes are reflected accurately in costing and proposal documents.
Costing and Commercial Support
Obtain and compare quotations from approved vendors and distributors to identify the most competitive suitable options.
Prepare complete costing that accounts for hardware, accessories, applicable software licences, warranty, support and other required project costs.
Recommend cost-effective alternatives without compromising customer requirements, compatibility, reliability or warranty coverage.
Check pricing validity, stock availability and lead times, and promptly update Sales on changes that may affect quotations or delivery.
Support the Sales team in improving quotation competitiveness while protecting the company’s margins.
Vendor Coordination and Internal Handover
Liaise with vendors and distributors to clarify specifications, compatibility, pricing and product availability.
Coordinate with Sales, Purchasing and Technical teams to ensure approved configurations are accurately handed over for ordering and fulfilment.
Assist with technical proposal documents, tender compliance information and product demonstrations under guidance.
Maintain useful configuration references, costing templates and product information to improve the speed and consistency of future proposals.
Requirements
A qualification in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Electronics or a related discipline is preferred. Candidates with relevant practical skills and a strong hardware interest will also be considered.
Fresh graduates are welcome; candidates with 1–3 years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
A genuine interest in x86 servers, customised workstations and computer components, with a willingness to develop deeper technical knowledge.
Basic understanding of computer hardware and component selection. Experience building, upgrading or troubleshooting PCs, workstations or home-lab systems is an advantage.
Comfortable using Microsoft Excel to prepare BOMs, compare quotations and perform costing calculations.
Good communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work closely with Sales and Technical colleagues.
A proactive approach to learning, reliable follow-through and the judgement to ask questions rather than make unsupported assumptions.
Advanced server certifications or previous enterprise solution-design experience are not required for entry-level applicants.
What We Offer
Monthly basic salary of S$3,000–4,500, depending on experience and demonstrated capability.
Annual performance bonus of up to three months’ basic salary, subject to achievement of agreed performance criteria. The bonus is performance-based and is not guaranteed.
Product training and practical guidance in server and workstation configuration, BOM preparation and costing.
Exposure to customer projects and opportunities to develop technical and commercial skills.
Career development towards a Presales Engineer or Solutions Engineer role as capability grows.
Performance Expectations
Performance will be assessed on the accuracy and completeness of BOMs, timely support to the Sales team, quality of costing and proposed alternatives, teamwork, and progress in technical learning.
This is a technical presales support role, not a customer-prospecting position. The employee will support successful sales outcomes but will not carry an individual sales revenue or GP quota.
Application
Please submit your résumé and a brief description of your interest in computer hardware.
Fresh graduates are welcome to include examples of relevant school projects, personal PC builds, workstation configurations or home-lab experience.
