Junior DevOps Engineer

Salary: $62,400 – $75,000 per year

We are SiteHost, a great New Zealand web hosting company with a reputation for amazing service and clever ways of helping our customers. For over two decades, we’ve built a reputation for being the kind of team people trust with their websites, infrastructure, and problems big or small.

We’re now looking for a Junior DevOps Engineer to join our Operations Team.

What this role involves:

Working on the front lines of a busy web hosting company means you’ll get exposure to a broad range of technical challenges. The nature of our company means we are looking for candidates with solid programming and systems development skills, not just Operations aptitude. You won’t just be expected to code - you’ll be putting those skills to use regularly. Whether that involves automating workflows and creating internal tools, or debugging complicated infrastructure issues and making contributions to improvements across our systems, your development skills will be essential in many aspects of our work and in the way we deal with problems.

As well as that, you'll be actively involved with real people and real problems. This involves working directly with customers to deal with hosting and infrastructure problems, troubleshooting issues concerning servers, networking, and performance, and gaining a deep understanding of Linux environments and cloud platforms. Along the way, you’ll be exposed to a broad set of open-source tools and technologies, and you’ll collaborate closely with experienced DevOps engineers and learn from a talented and supportive team.

Who we’re looking for:

This is a junior role, so we don’t expect you to know everything, but you should have a solid technical foundation and a strong desire to learn and grow. We’re after someone who’s hands-on, curious, and confident writing code to solve real-world problems.

You might be a great fit if you have:

• Some experience with scripting or programming (e.g., PHP, Python, Go, or similar).

• A solid understanding of Linux and command-line tools.

• A genuine interest in infrastructure, DevOps, and automation.

• A team-oriented mindset - you’re proactive, eager to ask questions, and happy to help others.

Bonus points if you have:

• Familiarity with hosting environments, containers, or cloud services.

• Prior experience in technical support or system admin work.

• Personal or school projects you can show off (we love seeing what you’ve tinkered with).

Why work with us?

We like to think SiteHost is a great place to work. We’re a friendly team that enjoys having fun while getting things done. Our office is a wear-what-you-want, help-yourself-to-a-great- coffee kind of a place. We’re serious about flexible working and work-life balance, too, so you’ll have the opportunity to tell us what that means for you.

It’s important to us that every role in the company lets people deepen their knowledge and skills. As any growing company does, we have challenges to overcome but we approach those with care. You can expect us to be supportive, flexible and fair and we’ll expect you to take initiative, step up to a challenge and pursue personal growth in a healthy way.

You can expect excellent remuneration. We’re serious about making your work rewarding and helping you get better at what you enjoy doing. Because we want SiteHost people to commit for the long term, keeping you happy is vital to both our success and yours.

Sounds good? Get started on your application now and we’ll be in touch soon.
