Join our Data Science & AI Talent Community at CommBank

What is the Talent Community?

At CommBank, we’re always looking for people who put customers first and want to use data and AI to solve meaningful problems at scale. Our recruitment is ongoing and never closes — you can join our Data Science & AI Talent Community at any time, and we’ll connect you with relevant opportunities as they arise.

Roles are typically based in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide or Perth, depending on the team, and sit within our Data Science & AI practice across the Group. Opportunities commonly include Data Scientist, Senior Data Scientist, Chapter Lead/Senior Manager, and Principal Data Scientist roles.

As part of our teams, you’ll build commercial, enterprise‑grade AI solutions that improve productivity, strengthen decision‑making and deliver better customer experiences — while ensuring AI is used responsibly, ethically and at scale for the benefit of customers and the broader Australian community.

Global AI Leadership & Partnerships

At CommBank, you’ll work at the forefront of applied AI through strategic partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic, alongside deep collaboration with the global technology ecosystem. Our Seattle Tech Hub embeds our teams with world‑class technology partners to accelerate capability and deliver real‑world generative and agentic AI solutions at scale. This leadership has been recognised globally, with CommBank ranked #4 worldwide in the 2025 Evident AI Index for AI maturity.

Who we’re looking for

At CommBank, our values of Care, Courage and Commitment guide everything we do – for our customers, our communities and each other. Within Data Science & AI, these values come to life through responsible use of data, ethical AI, and decisions that balance innovation with trust and impact.

We’re building a community of Data Scientists who share these values – people who combine deep technical expertise with strong commercial thinking, leadership capability and purpose. Whether you’re actively looking for your next role or planning a future move, we’d love to hear from people who:

• Show care by putting customers and community at the heart of data‑driven solutions – acting with integrity, accountability and an ethical mindset focused on customer outcomes, colleagues and key stakeholders.

• Demonstrate courage through curiosity and sound judgement – excited by tackling new and complex business problems in AI, evolving existing products and capabilities, challenging assumptions and positively influencing senior stakeholders through evidence‑based insight. This includes a strong, curiosity‑led approach to questioning, validating and solving problems using mathematics, statistics and models, and feeling empowered to share thought leadership and problem‑solving ideas in a growing environment that addresses real‑world challenges impacting millions of customers across Australia.

• Live commitment by investing in continuous learning and craft excellence – bringing deep, hands‑on expertise in Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models (LLMs), with a proven track record of designing, building and delivering end‑to‑end AI capabilities for business stakeholders. This includes strong practical experience implementing Generative AI and agentic and multi‑agent systems, using modern frameworks and tooling such as Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, LangGraph and the OpenAI Responses API, as well as applying a combination of commercial and technical AI models to deliver solutions that create strategic value.

• Thrive in collaborative environments – working closely with product, engineering and business teams, curious enough to solve real‑world problems, and collaborative in how you design, test and scale AI solutions across the organisation.

• Feel energised working autonomously and taking ownership – as a self‑motivated, driven leader of work who can effectively collaborate with, support and uplift teams of Data Scientists and AI specialists to deliver high‑quality, scalable outcomes.

• Connect purpose with impact – contributing to and leading transformational AI initiatives that improve customer outcomes, build trust, and support CommBank’s role in Australia’s long‑term financial wellbeing.
