defects, and implement targeted enhancements and controlled refactoring in
legacy applications while preserving established business behavior, data
integrity, and integration contracts. Following initial training, teleworking
up to two days per week may be available.
Key Responsibilities
• Database development: Develop, debug,
maintain, and tune SQL, complex stored procedures, views, triggers, and related
database business logic.
• Java Development: Develop and maintain
Spring Boot services, REST APIs, message-based integrations, batch processes,
and supporting service-layer code.
• Production support: Investigate
application issues, data discrepancies, failed integrations, and production
incidents, including weekly on-call rotation.
• Integration support: Support IBM MQ, APIs,
messaging, file-transfer, notification, and scheduled-processing workflows
across connected application systems.
• Reliability improvements: Improve performance,
stability, logging, maintainability, availability, and recovery across database
and Java components.
• Legacy Application Maintenance: Diagnose defects,
trace existing business logic, implement targeted fixes and enhancements,
refactor Java and database code carefully, and improve performance without
disrupting existing integrations.
• Testing and review: Test, debug, review,
and validate database and Java changes before release according to established
procedures.
• Cross-team collaboration: Work with analysts,
testers, DBAs, developers, and operations staff to deliver reliable changes.
• Experience level: 3-5 years of
professional experience developing and supporting Java applications and
relational databases, including significant hands-on relational database
development.
• Java and Spring Boot: Ability to develop
and maintain Spring Boot services, REST APIs, Spring batch processes, JDBC/JPA
access, and configuration.
• Application integration and
distributed systems: Experience
supporting REST APIs, IBM MQ or another enterprise messaging platform,
message-based workflows, scheduled jobs, secure transfers, and application
logs, with an understanding of service dependencies, failover, retries,
timeouts, idempotency, and recovery.
• SQL and database skills: Significant hands-on
experience developing, debugging, and maintaining complex stored procedures and
database business logic, including triggers, views, joins, scripts, query
tuning, and data reconciliation.
• Database platform experience: Working knowledge of
SAP ASE/Sybase or a comparable relational database platform.
• Production support: Ability to diagnose
issues, communicate status clearly, and deliver accurate fixes with minimal
oversight.
• Build and testing: Working knowledge of
Maven, unit testing, mocking frameworks, and code review practices.
• Communication and ownership: Ability to explain
technical findings and take ownership of complete, tested work.
Preferred Technology and Experience
• Modern Java stack: Java 17 or newer,
Spring Boot 3.x, Spring Web, Spring Batch, JDBC/JPA, REST APIs, messaging,
monitoring, and structured logging.
• Database connectivity and
operations: JDBC,
connection pooling, multiple data source configuration, and production database
troubleshooting.
• Integration patterns: API integration,
message-based processing, stored procedure integration, scheduling, email, file
publishing, and FTP/SFTP-style support.
• Database Stack: Experience with
Microsoft SQL Server T-SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, or another comparable procedural SQL
environment may be considered transferable to SAP ASE/Sybase.
Supplementary Technical Experience
• Containers & Orchestration: Docker
containerization with familiarity in Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• CI/CD & Version Control: Git, Jenkins, Azure
DevOps, GitHub Actions, or comparable automation tools.
• Observability & Logging: Application
monitoring using Splunk, ELK stack, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or
distributed tracing.
• Application Security: OAuth2/OIDC, JWT,
mutual TLS, certificates, and secrets management.
• Integration Testing & Mocking: Testcontainers,
WireMock, contract testing, Selenium, or Cypress.
• System Scripting & Operations: Linux/Unix shell
scripting, PowerShell, load testing, or capacity planning.
• Frontend Exposure: Familiarity with
React, Angular, Vue, TypeScript, HTML, or CSS for end-to-end troubleshooting.
• Delivery & Practices: Agile/Scrum
methodologies, pull request workflows, peer reviews, issue tracking, and
technical documentation.
