- Recommends innovative approaches to leverage new and existing hardware, software, and other technologies as necessary.
- Identifies, researches, and designs supporting infrastructure that provides services to ULs staff and clients worldwide.
- Develops business-focused requirements for the technical architecture, evaluates alternative technologies, and recommends appropriate solutions that fit current enterprise architecture.
- Determines optimal mix of key service levels in technical designs.
- Defines key aspects of architecture and design (e.g.

- Evaluates new technologies and determines how they could be used or applied in the delivery of IT Services.
- Communicates cost effectiveness of migration or deployment.
- Ensures a consistent and standardized environment for computing resources that will ensure cost effective application delivery for the enterprise.
- Evaluates service level agreements for business and quality of service (QoS) elements when designing solutions (i.e.
- security, performance, reliability, availability, manageability, etc.).
- Advises Business/IT management on IT enterprise architecture issues.
- Participates in the IT Standards, IT Performance, and Capacity Management processes.
- Maintains and applies current knowledge of information technology.
- Researches new and emerging technologies through industry journals, conferences, and various information sources such as Gartner, Meta, etc.
- to help determine if and how they can be used to add value to the business.
- Leads projects with UL IT managers to develop and maintain three-year technology roadmaps in all technology areas and with UL Application and Information Management.
- Ensures the technology infrastructure and direction meets the current and forecasted needs of the application portfolio.
- Engages all external service providers in the planning and provision of system resource requirements.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
- Performs other duties as directed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, with 10+ years of directly related experience.
- Proven experience leading complex IT projects and programs, including managing technical teams and driving enterprise technology initiatives.
- Deep expertise in solution architecture, systems design, and enterprise application architecture, with the ability to design scalable, secure, and resilient technology solutions that align with business objectives.
- Strong knowledge of integration architecture, including APIs, messaging platforms, event-driven systems, and enterprise data exchange patterns.
- Experience designing and supporting cloud-based architectures, particularly within Microsoft Azure environments.
- Solid understanding of infrastructure and networking fundamentals, including highly available 24x7 environments, n-tier architectures, grid and blade server infrastructures, and enterprise networking technologies.
- Expertise in security, compliance, and secure transaction design, including firewalls, DMZ architectures, and enterprise security best practices.
- Strong knowledge of data architecture, information flows, and system interoperability, ensuring effective data management and governance across platforms.
- Experience designing for performance, scalability, resiliency, and business continuity in enterprise environments.
- Detailed knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices for computing infrastructure and enterprise architecture.
- Operational understanding of service-level agreements (SLAs), service-level metrics, and the tools used to monitor and measure operational performance.
- Working knowledge of project lifecycle methodologies and enterprise solution delivery frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise infrastructure technologies, including Unix, Solaris, HP-UX, Linux, Red Hat, IBM, Windows, SAN/NAS storage platforms, EMC and NetApp solutions, backup and recovery technologies, load balancing, Oracle RAC, and networking technologies such as Cisco.
- Ability to translate business requirements into architectural roadmaps, technology strategies, and delivered solutions while providing technical leadership and guidance across global teams.
