Contract iOS developer role (1-2 years, possible FTE conversion) serving as the technical anchor for an iOS team — 80% coding, 20% architecture. Core work spans Swift with strict concurrency, hybrid SwiftUI/UIKit UI, local-first SwiftData/Core Data design, and setting up AI workflows and MCP server integrations.
iOS Developer / Contract. 1-2 years with possibility of conversion to FTE / Pittsburg, PA is the preferred location, but will consider candidates from EST zone / W2 only, no 3rd party inquiries please.
Summary:
This Strategic Lead is the technical anchor for the iOS team. You are a systems thinker responsible for defining the long-term technical roadmap, ensuring that the app remains performant as features scale, and mentoring the team to reach higher standards of engineering excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Position is 80% coding, 20% architectural design and implementation.
- Architectural Stewardship: Design and evolve scalable app architectures. You decide when to leverage SwiftUI for rapid UI development and when to fall back on UIKit for complex legacy integrations.
- Concurrency & Performance: Lead the implementation of modern Swift concurrency models. You are responsible for identifying memory leaks and optimizing main-thread performance.
- Cross-Functional Strategy: Partner with Product Managers and Designers to evaluate the technical feasibility of new concepts and propose solutions that save time without sacrificing user experience.
- Mentorship & Documentation: Serve as the "final word" on technical disputes, conduct rigorous code reviews that teach better patterns, and author clear Technical Design Documentation (TDD).
- AI Workflows & Architecture: Define strategies for incorporating AI workflows, setting up Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and designing scalable architectures for agent integration across the mobile development lifecycle.
- Testing: Our team operates without a dedicated manual Quality Assurance (QA) team. This means that every developer, regardless of role, is responsible for the end-to-end quality of their code, including comprehensive automated and manual testing, to ensure features are production-ready and shippable upon commit.
Required Skills:
- 8+ years of professional iOS development experience (with 3+ in an architectural/leadership capacity).
- Proven ability to resolve ambiguity and influence without authority.
- Demonstrated experience setting up AI workflows, developer skills, and MCP server integrations.
- Swift Mastery: Expert understanding of generics, protocols, strict concurrency, and modern Swift evolution.
- Hybrid UI: Seamless ability to bridge SwiftUI and UIKit.
- System Design: Expert at designing local-first data strategies using SwiftData or Core Data, including complex sync logic and migrations.
- AI Infrastructure: Proven experience configuring AI workflows, custom agent skills, and MCP server integrations.
