Intermediate Mechanical Designer
2302 Rd 125, St. Marys, ON N4X 1C9, Canada
The Opportunity:
If your best work happens when you have real ownership, when you can take a problem from concept through production and see it built, this is the role for you.
If your best work happens when you have real ownership, when you can take a problem from concept through production and see it built, this is the role for you.
We're looking for an experienced mechanical designer who wants to do more than create drawings. You'll be responsible for developing products that are manufactured and used in the real world, working directly with production, customers, and a team of engineers to turn ideas into durable, practical solutions. At All-Equip, the people designing our products are closely connected to the manufacturing process, giving you the opportunity to continuously refine and improve your work based on direct feedback from the shop floor and the field. You'll have a meaningful voice in product direction, engineering standards, and how our engineering team continues to grow.
Work Arrangement:
- Full-Time, fully on-site at our St. Mary's, Ontario facility. Your designs are built here, and the shop floor is an important part of your workspace.
Compensation:
- This is a salaried position paying $55,000–$75,000/year depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package including Extended Health Care. We believe in paying fairly for genuine expertise, practical knowledge, and the ability to deliver results.
About Us:
All-Equip/Platinum Trailers is a family-owned business. Founded in 2011, we’ve grown into a recognized leader in both trailer manufacturing and heavy equipment repair and service, and it’s that repair experience that gives us a real edge.
All-Equip/Platinum Trailers is a family-owned business. Founded in 2011, we’ve grown into a recognized leader in both trailer manufacturing and heavy equipment repair and service, and it’s that repair experience that gives us a real edge.
We’ve seen what fails in the field, what holds up under pressure, and what the competition consistently gets wrong. That knowledge is baked into everything we do.

The Role:
As our Intermediate Mechanical Designer, you'll be drawing on something better than data: the accumulated, hands-on knowledge of a team that has spent years building, repairing, testing, and improving trailers in the real world. You'll take ownership of the design process from initial concept through production release, ensuring our products are practical, manufacturable, durable, and built to perform in demanding environments.

You'll take ownership of the design process from initial concept through production release, ensuring our products are practical, manufacturable, durable, and built to perform in demanding environments.
You'll work closely with production, customers, leadership, and a team of developing engineers, helping transform experience from the field into products that continually improve on what already exists. This role extends beyond creating CAD models and drawings—you'll be expected to validate your work in production, participate in problem-solving on the shop floor, mentor engineers, and contribute meaningfully to the future direction of our products and engineering team.
In a typical week, you'll spend time developing and refining trailer designs in CAD, collaborating with manufacturing teams to address production challenges, reviewing concepts and drawings with engineers, and ensuring designs move smoothly from concept through production. You'll also participate in design reviews, prototype development, testing activities, and continuous improvement initiatives across both products and engineering processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop grain, specialty, and custom trailer systems from initial concept through production release.
- Own the end-to-end design of chassis, suspension systems, structural assemblies, and related components.
- Build and maintain high-quality 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings in Onshape, establishing best practices for design documentation.
- Translate customer requirements, field feedback, and manufacturing needs into practical, buildable designs.
- Apply transportation, safety, structural, and load standards while understanding the intent behind engineering requirements.
- Collaborate directly with production teams to improve manufacturability, reduce complexity, and optimize product performance.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to developing engineers, helping build capability and consistency across the engineering team.
- Participate in design reviews, prototyping activities, validation testing, and continuous product improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing products, engineering standards, and design processes.
- Spend time on the shop floor validating designs, supporting production, and resolving manufacturing challenges.
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to design and production issues.
- Maintain engineering documentation, revision control, and product data management standards.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure engineering decisions align with business, manufacturing, and customer requirements.
What We Offer:
- Full-time salaried position with stable, long-term career opportunities.
- Extended health care coverage.
- Bi-weekly direct deposit.
- Real ownership over products, engineering processes, and design decisions.
- Direct connection to your work—the shop floor is steps away, allowing you to see designs become reality.
- A low-bureaucracy environment where good ideas are heard and implemented quickly.
- Opportunities to mentor engineers and influence the future direction of the engineering department.
- Exposure to specialized agricultural and transportation equipment design that builds highly transferable expertise.
Career Path:
All-Equip is actively investing in and expanding its engineering capabilities. This role offers significant influence over product development, engineering standards, and team growth. As the department evolves, there is a clear path toward increased technical leadership, engineering management responsibilities, or broader involvement in strategic product development initiatives. If leading and shaping the future of the engineering team is something that interests you, we're ready to have that conversation from day one.
